TRUST 👏 THE 👏 PROCESS 👏

This maternity session started with us questioning EVERYTHING!

Picture this:
We’re driving to the beach.
It’s absolutely BUCKETING down.
ALL the weather apps are all confidently telling me there’s no rain.
Meanwhile I can barely see through the windscreen 😬

So there I am, refreshing three different weather apps every 30 seconds like somehow the answer will change.
“Maybe this one knows something the others don’t...” 🤡

Thankfully this beautiful couple trusted me enough to keep driving, cross our fingers and see what happened.

And guess what?!
The rain stopped.
The clouds parted.
The skies turned dramatic.
The wind calmed down just enough.
And we ended up having the best time, such a laugh (with a couple of sprinkles thrown in ☔️)! and creating together some of the most beautiful, art-filled, moody, magical memories celebrating their journey to parenthood!

A little reminder that sometimes the best photos happen when everything looks like it’s about to go horribly wrong 😂

Trust your photographer.
Trust the process.
But maybe don’t trust the weather apps quite so much.

Now tell me honestly... would you ever guess it had been pouring rain 20 minutes before these photos were taken?!

I first met Mum, Dad and their beautiful big sister, Peppa 🐶 at the beach back in September last year. Truly it feels like yesterday... and yet so much has changed in their world!

Since then, they’ve welcomed the most scrumptious little twin girls, Lana and Mia, and settled into the beautiful chaos, love and adventure that comes with parenthood times two.

These gorgeous girls were an absolute dream in the studio… happy, content and completely divine. They are such a reflection of their lovely parents, and it was such an honour to capture this special season for them!

One thing I always love to remind families is that there is no deadline on documenting your memories. If the newborn stage feels overwhelming, that’s okay. Your babies are never “too old” for a photoshoot. Whether they’re one week old, six months old, or ten years old, every stage is worth remembering because every stage passes far too quickly 🥹

First trip around the sun 🎈

A gorgeous little smash cake session for this beautiful boy! I first met him when he was a little newborn, and it always blows my mind when these big babies walk through the door to the studio for their first birthday celebrations!

Time truly does fly 🥹 and I’m not even their Mum!

It would have been my Dad’s 70th birthday yesterday 🎂

I’ve been thinking about it all week, but couldn’t quite bring myself to write anything yesterday. I still struggle with grief and milestones, and the many feels that go with it.

In a funny way, I think Dad would have absolutely hated turning 70. He was so proud, and quite vain 🤣 and never really saw himself as an old man. So maybe it’s fitting that he’s forever 55.

I still find myself grieving all the milestones that should have been. The big ones, like getting married and having children. It’s sad that my kids never got to meet their Poppy John. I tell them stories about him all the time, but it’s one of those tragedies of life that they only know him through photographs and stories.

As the years have gone on, grief has become easier in some ways, but it’s also morphed into something very different.

I will always wish my Dad was here, but the truth is, he wasn’t always the easiest man to get along with. There are still so many unresolved feelings there, and I know there’s many others out there who have lost a parent feel the same way. You love them because they’re your parent and they do have great qualities, but often the relationship was complicated. Maybe that’s part of the grief too.

He really did live fast and die young… and I hope he’s at peace now.

I’m thankful for the good times and the wild ride he made my life to be. For teaching me to drive in your rally car. For seeing how fast we could go while I sat on the back of your Harley on an open stretch of road. For long drives listening to Queen, The Eagles and Phantom of the Opera 🤣 For ski trips, adventures, and some of my very favourite memories at the snow.

Last year I took my own kids back to the same lodge we always stayed at, and all I could think was how much I wished you were there with us. I hope somehow you were 🎿

So if I’ve learnt anything, it’s hold your parents and loved ones close. You never know when an ordinary day will become your last memory together.

One of my absolute favourite things about this job is capturing beautiful memories for babies who will stay in my family forever 🥰

Welcome to the world, gorgeous Isaac. I hope one day you look back on these photos and see just how loved you were from the very beginning. Auntie Lem is so happy you’re here!

It was so special spending the morning in the studio with my beautiful cousin Vanessa and her family, soaking up all those fresh newborn cuddles and documenting this new chapter for their beautiful family, and spot the gorgeous blanket knitted by Mum - so special!

And then there’s Miss Adaline... the sweetest, cheekiest big sister who, quite frankly, had better things to do than pose for photos. If you spot the chippies making a guest appearance in a few images, that’s because they were non-negotiable on the day 😂

Years from now, those little, funny details will tell the best story. The snacks, the chaos, the big feelings, the tiny newborn stretches, and the reality of welcoming a new baby into the family.

These are the moments worth remembering.
Welcome to the world, little man. You’re already so very loved!

A little glimpse into our beautiful friends’ life in Phnom Penh, Cambodia 🤍

We spent a couple of weeks visiting some of our favourite people who moved over there a few years ago and finally got to meet their gorgeous miracle baby Harley, who is already so deeply loved by her big sister Cleo.

It was so special seeing their new home, their everyday life, the chaos, the love, the routines, the beautiful streets of Phnom Penh and getting to document this season for them as friends, not just as a photographer.

BUT…
Can we also talk about how photographing your best friends’ children is basically the same as photographing your own children? 😭😂

You’d think kids who know and love you would happily cooperate… absolutely not. They are SO comfortable with you they become tiny dramatic divas with zero interest in your artistic vision.

Miss Cleo was giving my own daughter Miranda energy all shoot and you would never know from these photos because somehow they still look like dreamy little angels 💀

Meanwhile, just out of frame in basically every single image, my daughter was scream crying because she wasn’t in enough photos and I had to repeatedly explain that this was, in fact, not her family shoot 😭

The funniest behind-the-scenes chaos for the sweetest memories!! Can you spot my daughter sneaking in for a few best friend shots?!

We miss our darling friends already and loved every second of our Cambodia adventure x

There’s something so special about meeting you while you’re expecting, chatting all about your baby… then seeing you again once they’re finally here in your arms.

It’s such a beautiful way to document the beginning of your little one’s story.

I first met Kurt and Kahmun when they were expecting little Scarlet, then photographed her as a newborn, and now getting to capture this next chapter as they prepare to welcome their baby boy is so incredibly special!

I’m SO excited to finally meet the beautiful baby boy in this gorgeous bump this week.

A stunning sunset, the sweetest little family, and the most beautiful memories to capture 🥰

Just four months ago, I welcomed this beautiful family into my studio to document those tiny newborn days with little Miss Chloe, only a couple of weeks old.

And now here we are again at sunset… a little more settled, a little more grown, and somehow even more beautiful.

Watching families return and getting to capture these chapters as your babies change so quickly is truly one of the biggest honours of my job.
