Today is Charlie’s last day of chemo. The bravest, gentlest boy there ever was 💛
His sweet, trusting nature filled the room when I first met him, and his mum, dad and sisters love has no doubt been what has held and carried him - through 12 long months of surgery, radiation and chemo.
This is very clearly a family of four.
Not three humans and a dog called Charlie.
A family of four.
They have poured everything into being there for their sweet boy while he’s faced the fight of his life. In the middle of it all their baby girl Sophie arrived. So these first-time parents navigated their newborn, while also showing up for Charlie’s every chemo cycle, every recovery day, every hard day he faced. Their love and devotion is as big as it gets - they loved harder in both directions 🥹💛
I have tears in my eyes writing this, because this kind of love, this level of pure devotion and understanding shows my heart something that feels so sacred.
Charlie’s crooked little smile 💛🐾🥰These are the marks left from his treatment, the singed parts of his fur from the radiation, his beautiful face carrying the evidence of everything he’s been through - his battle scars. They are proof of how deeply he is loved, and always, always will be.
They have done EVERYTHING they could to give their boy more time, more comfort and more life here in the middle of his family.
Hopefully soon Charlie can be there for his sister to lean on as she takes her first steps. And so many other milestones ahead.
I wanted to celebrate Charlie and his family’s devotion on his last day of chemo. A little square forever on my gird to honour his bravery, his loyalty, and the depth of love this family holds for him.
Dear sweet Charlie,
you are a shining example of bravery, trust, acceptance and love — the kind we can only hope to live up to. 🤍
