At 40 weeks pregnant, Katie wanted to treat herself before bub was born. So she booked into DiP In, my first underwater photography workshop. This review makes my heart so happy and means more than words can really say. Thank you for trusting the process, and for trusting me, Katie! Four days after the workshop, little Scotty was born.

Before I picked up a camera I worked as a caseworker in a women’s refuge on the Central Coast. I also worked in early intervention with families. Those years shaped everything about who I am and what I value.

When I started DiP Underwater Studio, I knew I wanted it to mean something beyond photography. 5% of every DiP Under workshop spot goes to Got Your Back Sista, a Newcastle-based service supporting women and children escaping domestic violence.

We are now an official authorised fundraiser.

I learnt to surf in my 40s during lockdown. I was terrible at it. I’m still not great. But the ocean taught me things about photography and business that I couldn’t have learned anywhere else.

I came to the ocean looking for something. I didn’t know what. I found a community of water people who showed up for each other in ways I hadn’t expected.

That’s the thing about the ocean. It doesn’t just reset your nervous system. It introduces you to your people.

Everything I do now grew from that.

Two spots left for DiP Under — 19 September, Caves Beach.

A full day in the water. Studio in the morning, ocean in the afternoon. You’ll shoot a real model in my heated underwater pool, then cross the road to Caves Beach for surf portraits above and below the surface.

Four women only. No waiting your turn. Most of your day will be spent in the water, camera in hand.

Includes your own 1:1 call with me before the day, lunch, all your images, and ongoing support after.
