Local Surf Lounge Academy is more than just a place to learn how to surf; it’s a sanctuary for vulnerable children and young adults in Muizenberg, Cape Town. They offer surf coaching, meals, mentorship, and a sense of belonging to those who need it most. I had the privilege of visiting LSLA in 2023 and was deeply moved by the community’s spirit and stories. This May, I’m returning to run a surf photography workshop, sharing my knowledge of light and storytelling through a lens.
To make this experience even more impactful, we need your help to purchase a rugged, waterproof OM System TG-7 camera. This camera will stay at the academy, allowing the youth to capture their own stories on their own terms. Our goal is $750, and every dollar goes directly to this cause—no fees, no cuts.

The ocean is glassy and warm. The light is beautiful. I have a mermaid in the pool and a surfer on the way and I am so genuinely excited I don’t know what to do with myself.

When I first got in the water with a camera, I found something I didn’t expect — a community. A tight-knit group of ocean lovers who welcomed me in and pushed me to keep going. 🌊

I built this half-day course for the photographer who’s been curious about shooting underwater but didn’t know where to start. We shoot in the ocean AND in my studio — which sits right on the water — and I cover everything from gear and camera settings to light, buoyancy and directing your model underwater.
Then we warm up in the infrared sauna and you leave with the confidence to get in the water and keep going.

Nobody told me the ocean had its own rules. 🌊
