So pretty in the Queensland rainforest, the tiny eastern yellow robin flits erratically through the dark vegetation, its yellow breast catching any available light and adding a whole new layer of attraction to the surroundings.

Always worth an early start.... watching the dawn colours sweep over the wilds of Grose Valley in Australia's Blue Mountains. It's a moment of majesty that frames the day ahead.

Adorned in colours like these, one would never think that the spectacular mallee ringneck parrot could blend in with the surrounding environment. But nothing is further from the truth - somehow they are extraordinarily well camouflaged and are often only traceable by their ringing bell-like chatter, especially when buried in amongst the vegetation to eat its seeds. It took me ages to actually spot this beautiful bird recently along the banks of the Darling River in New South Wales.

One of my very favourite things - those moments on the water when water clarity, calm and sunny conditions, and pristine colours above and below the surface all come together to produce reflection works of art. Such was the situation at Parsley Bay in Sydney Harbour, a perfect day with waters painting the day away.

"Wow - all to myself!" A berry feast for one very hungry figbird at Ballina on New South Wales's north coast. This guy did not move from this section of the tree for over an hour. Obviously in seventh heaven.

Sounding for all the world like a yowling feline or a distressed child, the green catbird's call rings out in the subtropical forests of southeastern Queensland. This is a stout, large bird, a species of bowerbird with a blood red eye and an unmistakable attitude. Look at that beak - who would have thought that would produce the exact same sound as a very loud drawn out meow? Listen out for him - it's an extraordinary call indeed.

A short series to showcase a most unusual end of day over Lake Pamamaroo in Menindee Lakes, New South Wales. Interesting to witness the change in conditions over a short time - the sun firstly trapping in a low bank of cloud for some time but suddenly finding itself in a profoundly altered sky, yellow gold turning to deep orange, and a sun previously hidden now proudly and fully visible, the cloud layer having disappeared in the blink of an eye. A most spectacular and memorable vision.

A beautiful encounter with the endangered yellow-footed rock wallaby at Arkaroola in the Vulkathunha Gammon Ranges National Park, South Australia. Although they are the largest of Australia's rock wallaby species, this little fellow is only about 80cms tall yet can leap up to 4 metres from rock to rock, even scaling cliffs and climbing trees. Those gorgeous markings and fur colours help to camouflage them amongst the rocks - amazing how tough they are to see in that rocky landscape.
