Another round from Lady Musgrave 🐢

No rush, no noise… just a turtle doing its thing while I float there trying not to look like a complete stalker with a camera.

There’s something about black and white underwater… feels a bit more raw, a bit more timeless.

Second time ever shooting macro… and first time back on it in over 12 months.

Safe to say it felt like learning to juggle underwater again.
Working on strobe positioning, playing with more open f-stops, and trying to dial in those darker backgrounds without nuking the subject.

Plenty to improve… but also plenty to be stoked about.

Just wish I had more chances to dive with the camera instead of leaving it topside collecting dust 😂🤷

Somewhere between the reef and the horizon, time slows down…
and the locals glide past like they’ve got nowhere to be.
No rush. No noise. Just effortless movement and the occasional curious glance 👀
The kind of encounters that make you forget everything topside.

Lady Musgrave never disappoints… but the turtles?
They’re the real hosts out here.

Excuse me… this is the turtle express lane 🐢

While diving around Lady Musgrave Island, the locals tend to cruise by like underwater aircraft. Wings out, zero effort, and absolute ocean royalty.
If you stay still long enough, a Green Sea Turtle will eventually glide past like a living submarine 😍

My absolute favourites!

Back underwater again 🌊📸

Recently wrapped up a private Learn to Dive course aboard an M/Y out on the Great Barrier Reef, departing the Whitsundays. Once the course was done and with a hand from the captain completing his DM evaluation, I finally got the green light to pull the camera rig back out.

This was my first underwater shoot since the wedding in NZ, and of course… the ocean gods demanded a sacrifice. I’d left the camera on high-speed continuous, which meant my strobe sync was completely off. Shutter fired before the strobes did. Rookie error, seasoned annoyance 😅

That little mistake forced me into shooting natural light only, which is no easy task when you’re wide at 11mm. Challenging, frustrating, but also a solid reminder of how much light really matters underwater.
Second dive, issue fixed. Camera out of the housing, settings corrected… and then one strobe decided it simply wasn’t vibing anymore. Classic.
The joys, the lessons, and the reality of underwater photography. Already keen for the next mission.

2025 recap ✨

What a year. From some of my favourite shots so far — whales, astro, weddings, underwater, and everything in between. It’s been huge watching Jake Alexander Images continue to grow.

I launched my first calendar (still 25/50 left if you haven’t grabbed one 👀), shot my first professional wedding, and really started pushing further into underwater photography, which has been bloody exciting.

Massive thank you to everyone who’s liked, commented, shared, purchased, or supported me over the past 12 months (and beyond). It honestly means more than you know.

Can’t wait to see what 2026 brings 🚀📸

We all know.. well, a lot of people don’t 😉 But I was asked to photograph my first ever wedding for a lovely couple, Morgan and Gavin.
I’ve known these two for almost two years now, meeting them through work (ScubaWorld), and from there the rest was history.

I’m absolutely stoked with how everything turned out. Not going to lie, I was stressing hard knowing I had one chance to catch the magic moments. It was easily the most stressful thing I’ve ever photographed… but honestly one of the most fun and rewarding too.
Super grateful I got to do it for a couple I’m proud to call good friends 📸

Jeez, they had put a lot of trust in me for this one 😂🙏

There’s something special about nights like this quiet, still, and endless.

Spent some time experimenting with a few new techniques and couldn’t resist sharing this one from Moreton Island. Such a perfect spot for stargazing (and a bit of photography fun).

Ever spent a night under skies like this?
