A big thank you to the Sunshine Coast Young Chamber of Commerce for having me speak at their Personal Branding Masterclass.

My message was pretty simple: Show up. Stand out. Stay human.

It’s exactly what I had to do 11 years ago when I returned to my business after my cancer journey with no marketing budget. I had to become visible, build relationships, share my story and give people a reason to remember me.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of helping thousands of clients do the same for their businesses. In a world of trends, algorithms and AI, I think this matters more than ever, your strongest brand will always be the one that actually feels like YOU.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt about personal branding didn’t come from a course.

It came from having to rebuild my business from scratch.

After taking nearly two years away from my business while going through breast cancer treatment, I walked back into my studio with something many business owners fear…

No marketing budget.
No big advertising campaign.

I had to rely on one thing… me.

I realised people don’t just buy a service. They buy trust. They buy connection. They buy the person behind the business.

I had been building this behind the scenes on the way to the come back and I started showing up.

Not perfectly.
Not with polished scripts Chat GPT didn’t exist.
Just authentically. I shared my story, my passion, my purpose and the heart behind what I do. Slowly, my personal brand became stronger than any advertising campaign ever could.

That journey also taught me another valuable lesson…

No two businesses are ever the same.

A lawyer shouldn’t look like a florist.
A wellness coach shouldn’t look like a builder.
A luxury jeweller shouldn’t have the same imagery as a fitness coach.

Your brand deserves imagery that reflects your personality, your values and the clients you want to attract.

That’s why I never photograph two branding sessions the same.

One day you’ll pick your child up for the last time… and you won’t even realise it. It sounds heartbreaking, but it’s true.

One day they’ll stop reaching for your hand.

One day the giggles will become conversations.

One day they’ll roll their eyes instead of wrapping their arms around their siblings.

Their personalities will keep evolving, their smiles will change, and before you know it, another chapter has quietly passed.

That’s why I believe family photography isn’t a luxury, it’s a legacy.

Not because you need perfect outfits or perfectly behaved children, but because these beautifully ordinary moments become the memories you’ll treasure most.

One of my favourite parts of a family session is capturing the real connection between siblings. The hand-holding. The cuddles. The laughter. The cheeky personalities that make your family uniquely yours.

Here’s something I’ve noticed after photographing families for nearly 20 years…

The families who make photos a regular tradition raise children who feel completely at ease in front of the camera. They relax, they play, and they simply enjoy the experience.

The families who wait ten years often arrive saying, “The kids hate having their photo taken.” And honestly? That’s okay too… because that’s where I come in.

I’ll have you laughing, connecting, and forgetting the camera is even there.

Don’t wait until you loose weight.

Don’t wait until everyone’s grown.

Don’t wait until life slows down.

Don’t wait for “one day.”

Because childhood doesn’t wait.
