Bittersweet doesn’t even begin to cover it…

Yesterday was my very last family session for a long while — and honestly, I’m still sitting with all the feelings. Packing up life, hitting the road next week, and switching from full-time photographer to “photographer-when-we-land-somewhere” is huge. Exciting, scary, emotional… all of it.
I’m not sure yet how shooting on the road will look for me, but I do know it’ll be a few years before we’re properly settled again and I can pick up the camera full-time the way I love.

But goodness… what a way to finish.

I got to wrap up this beautiful chapter with one of my most treasured couples — the kind of people who feel like old friends. I’ve documented their story from “I do,” to their first little babe, and now their second. Watching their family grow has been one of the greatest gifts.

To every family I’ve photographed over the years… thank you. You’ve given me memories just as meaningful as the ones I’ve captured for you. 🤍

What an epic way to wrap up the final wedding of 2025 for Black Ochre Photography!

Courtney and Hayden tied the knot overlooking Point Cartwright, just missing that wild weekend storm and carried the celebrations through to the Kawana Surf Club, surrounded by their beautiful friends and family!

Their words honestly made me teary:
“Omg Emma we have just looked through, they are perfect! We have laughed, cried and been in awe over these. I truly can’t thank you enough, these are perfect and they represent us to a tee. Thank you 😭🥺♥️”

It’s a little bittersweet wrapping up the season… the last wedding for 2025! 🥹 What a year it’s been! Next stop — we’re packing up the van and setting off to travel Australia in 2026 I’ll still be taking on very limited wedding dates next year, so if you’re dreaming of a Sunshine Coast wedding or elopement with those candid, natural, documentary feels — now’s the time to reach out.

Time to pop the Prosecco, babes 🍾
Codie & Doug’s Stradbroke Island wedding from last week has officially been delivered and OMG, what a day! Plus I am two from two weddings at Deadman’s Lookout with whales breaching in the background (like, what are the chances?!). After five years of shooting weddings, I think it’s safe to say this might just be my favourite ceremony location ever.

There’s honestly nothing better than October skies on Straddie!
It’s that time of year when everything just feels a little extra magical, the sun’s warm, the breeze is perfect, and the island gives you the best backdrop without even trying.

Codie and Doug’s wedding was exactly that. So chill, so full of love, and just easy. The kind of day where everything flows, everyone’s laughing, and it feels like you’re celebrating with your closest mates. Their bridal crew was the perfect combo too , they kept the vibe fun, relaxed, and made the whole day one to remember! Thank you!!!

This is your reminder to carve out time on your wedding day for flash photos with your besties!!
You know those fun, high-energy shots that look like you’re in a Vogue afterparty spread? Champagne flying, heels kicked off, everyone laughing and dancing — yeah, those. They don’t just “happen” by chance. A quick 10–15 minute window during your reception (or once the dance floor opens) makes all the difference!

This is your moment to round up the bridal party, your ride-or-dies, and any friends who bring the good vibes 💃🏼🕺🏽 Think sunglasses, drinks in hand, arms around each other, maybe even a cheeky dip or two. Sunday honestly couldn’t have been more perfect, Natasha & Brendan absolutely nailed their engagement session — the light was what photographers dream about, their two pups were little angels and to top it all off, a few curious cows decided to wander over for a little cameo. It was one of those afternoons that just felt easy, fun and full of love.

I always say engagement photos are more than just a warm-up for your wedding day — they’re a little pocket of time where you get to slow down, soak each other in, and capture the season you’re in before the wedding whirlwind begins. Whether you’re deep in wedding planning or just starting to dream, sessions like these make everything feel real.

And just like that… That was my final lifestyle session for 2025. What. A. Year. every single story I’ve captured has meant the absolute world to me. Closing this chapter feels bittersweet, but there’s something so special about wrapping it up on such a beautiful note.

As we head into the next chapter — our big travelling adventure around Australia 🚐 — I’m feeling all the emotions. Grateful, excited, a little teary… but mostly SO ready for what’s ahead. This isn’t goodbye to lifestyle sessions forever, just a little “see you soon” while we hit the road and chase a new kind of sunset.

Ok, picture this: you rock up to what you think is just a normal engagement party… and SURPRISE, it’s actually a wedding! That’s exactly what Sam & Jason pulled off and honestly, it was magic.

When I asked them, “How do you want this day to feel when you look back in 20 years?” their answer was my favourite response: like I was a fly on the wall, just capturing the joy of friends and family celebrating. No runsheets, no forced smiles, just pure, candid love and laughter.

And that’s exactly what it was! an evening filled with dancing barefoot, clinking glasses, and soaking up every little unposed, unscripted moment. Their gallery is proof that documentary wedding photography is all about those in-between frames, the ones that make you feel like you’re right back in the moment.
