People think magic comes from doing more. It doesn’t.

A white sheet. A dark corner. A window. Presence.
That’s it.

Motherhood ruins the illusion that you arrived here alone.

The moment you hold your child, everything collapses into focus… the fear, the weight, the love that settles in your chest and never fully lets you rest.

Your heart no longer belongs only to you.
It walks the world now, exposed, vulnerable, completely out of your control.

You start doing things you never thought about before.
Watching the rise and fall of their chest.
Listening for sounds in the night.
Imagining futures you can’t protect them from.

And somewhere in all of that, you realise… your mother carried this too.

The worries that wake you in the dark once lived in her body.
The constant calculating, the silent what-ifs, the fear disguised as strength.
She carried it silently because that’s what mothers do.

She held you the same way.
Breathed you in.
Learned the shape of every part of you,
Loved you without knowing who you would become, without knowing how the story would unfold, without any guarantees at all.

Becoming a mother doesn’t just move you forward in time.
It pulls you back into your own beginning.
It forces you to see your mother not just as your mother but as a woman who once stood exactly where you are.

For some, that realisation is complicated.
Not every childhood was soft.
Not every mother knew how to love without hurting.

Motherhood has a way of tearing old scars back open.
Of bringing buried memories to the surface while your hands are busy holding someone new.
Of forcing you to sit with grief for the child you were, even as you fall in love with the one in front of you.

Giving clarity you didn’t ask for.
An understanding of what was carried.
What was missed.
What was never named but lived in your body anyway.

Then comes the reckoning.
The moment you realise you are standing at a crossroads holding both the past and the future at the same time.
Where you get to decide what ends with you.

And what heals through you 🖤

As a new year begins, it feels ritualistic to introduce myself again for those who are new here, and for those who have been around long enough to notice the shifts.

Hey… I’m Rue 💋

As time moves, we move with it. Slowly. I’ve known for a long time that this year would matter - not because of one moment, but because of everything that’s been quietly rearranging itself over the last few years. Decisions made without announcing them. Seasons that asked for patience. Foundations laid without urgency. Sacrifices made without spectacle.

This year 2026 feels significant not because of change, but because of continuity everything that’s been carried forward finally meeting itself.

And alongside that, the question of how much of myself actually belongs online and how much needs to be understood, not just consumed. How I create isn’t about performance or output. I’m more interested in how something feels than how it performs. I’m always searching for deeper meaning… in the work, in the process, in the people I meet.

I want to create without restriction. Without the feeling that everything needs to be shared, explained, or turned into proof that I’m still here. Art and creativity aren’t symbiotic with social media. They don’t thrive under constant exposure. They need space. Distance. Time off the wheel.

I feel the pull to retract more than I feel the urge to perform. To make without documenting. To let work exist without an audience. And still, the pressure hums a low-grade noise that flattens attention and dulls instinct. Brain rot dressed up as relevance.

Social media shows what people want you to see, not what’s actually there. It’s a surface, not the thing itself. And this year, I’m less interested in maintaining that surface. Less interested in polishing it, protecting it, or pretending it says anything meaningful about who I am.

I’m letting what’s underneath exist without explanation. Less curated. Less concerned. More honest. And thank you to those that have reminded me lately that it is needed - because I needed to hear it.

Not everything needs to be understood by everyone.

But what’s here will be real ❤️‍🔥

The waiting seasons to the full-armed seasons,
the moments you don’t realise are shaping you until you’re already standing on the other side.

I captured this sweet little family last year while they were waiting for their precious girl.
Now she’s here… arms full, hearts fuller, and a life that will never look the same again.

Turning everyday moments into something they’ll ache for one day 😭

If you’re showing up hoping your kids will be little angels,
I’m here to disappoint you gently… but also not gently:
they won’t be.
And they shouldn’t be.

Angels are boring.
Kids are chaos.
And chaos photographs better every damn time.

Give me the tantrums.
Give me the grubby cheeks, the sticky hands,
the outfit that looked clean for a total of twelve seconds and that feral little grin that says “I am not here to cooperate.”

Give me the child who refuses to “behave”
because behaving is the fastest way to lose who they really are.

And do you know what breaks parents later?
Not the chaos.
Not the noise.
Not the stubbornness.

It’s realising they grew out of it
while you were too busy begging them to be perfect.

Let go.
Let them be.
Your future self will thank you for not ruining the magic.

If you’re in Gympie and surrounds looking for your forever family photographer… let’s chat 💫
