Porta del Cel - Day 4&5
After skipping the hut in the French Pyrenees due to too much snow and fog and hiking out we summited another route to the 4th hut and got there as planned. However because we were early i. The season that hut wasn’t manned yet; only the emergency part was open. Originally we would have got food from the previous hut to take, but we didn’t make it there so we didn’t have a lot, basically ended up stretching our lunches and eating some snacks… on top of that we discovered that other than told the hut didn’t have blankets (1900m altitude 🥶). Luckily we were the only ones there so we built ourselves a little mattress fortress to keep our heat in there as good as possible and then pretty much wore all available clothing.
The next day however went as planned and was the most massive day yet: 20km, >1000m of climbing and >2000m descent. But the epic view along the way made up for all (or most) of our pain :)

La Porta del Cel - Day 3.
Due to bad weather (fog and too much snow) we talked to the hut rangers and agreed it would be too dangerous and difficult to continue day 3 as planned.
Hence we had a long day and hiked out through a valley. Still a very nice scenic path. We decided to hike up to the 4th hut 🛖 a different way to still be there as scheduled.

La Porta del Cel - Day 2.
This was adventure pure and we named one of the sections the death hill…
Everything started fine, we set off from the first hut eager to climb 1500m in elevation and descend about 700m. The way took us through beautiful valleys past horses, waterfalls and creeks and the views got better as we climbed the meters.
Then we got to more scrambling parts and after an extremely painful water crossing (so cold 🥶 it actually hurt the feet), and a beautiful lunch spot, we got to snow. The first snow fields were still interrupted by grass islands but soon we had to mount the crampons on the shoes to manage the slopes. And as if finding the way wasn’t hard enough yet the fog rolled in as well. We could hardly see, especially were never sure if there was running water below the snow we stepped on. Scary! But after 3h of that we finally reached the hut 🛖

Pyrenees adventure with and .
After a long trip from Barcelona to a little mountain village Tavascan, leaving luggage behind and packing crampons for snow we embarked on a 5day hike; la porta del cel (door to heaven).
Day 1 was fairly short yet the days to come covered more than 1000m up as well as down and at least 10km in distance. The weather was on our side today but that may change…
