Today is the last day of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale. I road-tripped up with a friend last weekend and had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

It was inspiring to see so much creative expression concentrated into forty-something venues in a few city blocks, and I had reactions ranging from "I wish I had created that image" to "I would be embarrassed to have my name on this".

Stand-outs for me were portraits from Robert Imhoff (Santa postcards), Glenn Hunt, Sophia Hewson, Erin M McCluskey and Daniel Kneebone. My normal disinterest in landscapes was overturned by Craig Mitchell's photos of Norwegian fjords.

The work from headline artist Liu Bolin, where he is painted to blend into the scene he is standing in the middle of, was interesting but didn't have any of the wow factor of David LaChapelle's exhibition from 2017's Biennale.

The next Foto Biennale will run for two months from late August 2021. It is already in my calendar.

I took over 5000 photos at Burning Seed this year but the only photo of me is a blurry polaroid taken at Sunset Island (and I appreciate this gift more than you can imagine).

I was quite touched to be asked to be the event photographer for PolyFinda's Sh***ri night at Golden Monkey. It was also a great time to find out what ISO 102400 looks like on my 5D mark IV in ultra-low light (answer: it's really grainy). Pictured: .kinbaku (rigger) and [14/11/2018]

Seeing this photo of the back of my head reminded me that I took some photos the last time 80s punk band I Spit On Your Gravy played at The Tote, back in 2016. The band returns to The Tote for their only Melbourne show this year on December 7th. I will be in the front row again with my camera.

Upcoming punk folk band Wasted Monday hung out with me in a Northcote laneway for a photoshoot back in July. They are headlining a gig tomorrow night at Bar Open.

I recently visited local artist Robina Smith to take an environmental portrait in her Brunswick studio. I am so impressed by her work, and so glad have such a talented friend.
