~ 10 YEARS

There’s something so incredibly hard about narrowing down the final images to deliver to a family, especially one that makes my job so incredibly easy.

Rach & Dean chose a warm afternoon in September to capture their 10-year anniversary.

This session was made special by the little hands reaching out, wind-tangled hair, the beautiful blur of life unfolding, and those in-between moments that you wish you could bottle up and keep forever.

As I went through this gallery, I found myself getting caught up in all the little moments that make this story so special.

The images that might not be perfectly posed or pin-sharp, but are filled with so much feeling. The kind of photographs that bring you straight back to how the afternoon felt, how the kids laughed, how tightly you held each other, and just how quickly this season of life is passing by.

There is so much sentimental value in photographs like these.

So yes, narrowing down a gallery can be hard… but when every image tells a little piece of a family’s story, perhaps that’s an easy problem to have.

~ Thought really hard about the edit on this photo.

When editing in colour, I found myself considering removing all background distractions. Things like people, poles, traffic on a nearby road. Objects that at first, appear to take away from the main subjects in front view.

It wasn't until I sat back and switched the image to B&W that I'd realised I'd missed the entire purpose of documenting a family occcasion. When a colour image is transferred to B&W, we become apart of the story, not all of it.

I imagined the Brown family pulling this image from an old treasure chest in many years to come.

At first, they'll probably smile at the occasion, remembering the day that seems like forever ago, and then they'll look closer.....at the cars, people and noise in the background. What was once a distraction is now the story.

What was life really like back then? What was the fashion? How did people act? Were they scrolling a phone or reading a newspaper? Driving a buggy or driving a car?

I love everything about this B&W image, including the family in it.

Ten years of marriage.

Four children.

Countless school runs, sporting commitments, busy mornings, tired evenings, raising babies, growing children and all the beautiful chaos that comes with building a family together.

Somewhere amongst the sport, school, work, milestones and the everyday business of family life, ten years quietly passed.

So, rather than letting the occasion slip by amongst the usual busyness, Rach & Dean decided to mark the occasion with photographs of the little people and the life they have built together.

And then came the surprise.

Carefully boxed away for the past ten years, Rach's wedding dress was strategically brought back out. Stepping into the very same gown that was worn a decade ago, surprising her family and bringing a little piece of that day back into the present.

Ten years of marriage isn't just about the wedding day, it's about everything that comes afterwards and these images will mark the beginning of the next chapter.

Happy Anniversary to you both. I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful family to spend my Saturday afternoon with.

I still remember the first time I met Darcy’s Mum and Dad. It was many years ago, on a cattle station in Central Queensland. Back then, they were a young couple going about life on the land, and somewhere along the way, a little boy came along.

Fast forward a few years, and somehow, that little boy is now standing at the other end of school, celebrating his formal and looking ahead to what comes next.

Like his Dad, Darcy has a serious interest in cars, particularly the sort that require getting your hands dirty. He’s currently pursuing a career in the automotive industry, with plenty of plans for what comes after.

If you ask Darcy, working on cars is only part of the plan. The ultimate goal is to beat Dad on the track once he’s finished rebuilding his own race car...

I’m not sure Mum and Dad are quite ready for that, yet!

It was a privilege to photograph your formal, Darcy, and to watch another chapter unfold for a family I’ve known for so many years.

Congratulations. Here’s to the cars, the apprenticeship, the racetrack and whatever comes next.

Some couples just make photographing formal portraits easy, and these two were exactly that.

Relaxed, vibrant and genuinely lovely to work with, Liam and Jordyn made the whole afternoon feel effortless and fun.

When Liam mentioned that the two of them were planning to head to Canada once school is finished, I couldn’t have been more excited for them. There’s something pretty special about having a big adventure waiting just around the corner.

And really, that’s what formal is all about, celebrating the completion of one chapter while quietly stepping into the next.

For these two, there’s a lot to look forward to.

Congratulations, Jordyn & Liam. I hope Canada is everything you’re hoping for and more. Wishing you both plenty of adventures, good stories and all the very best for whatever comes next.

Some photographs simply refuse to belong to a particular year.

A single black and white image of Wylye that grabbed my attention the moment I took it.

A young man standing tall, composed and quietly confident. A portrait of someone capable and willing to put his hand to whatever is asked of him.
Wylye carried himself with a quiet confidence that felt well beyond his years.

So, for formal, a classic black and white portrait felt fitting. Structured, timeless and uncomplicated.

Formal season always carries a certain kind of excitement. That feeling of closing one chapter and quietly stepping into the next.

Piper was always going to do formal her way. Celebrating this special milestone surrounded by family, fresh flowers, and wearing a beautiful dress that suited her perfectly.
