Still to this day the best dugong encounter I’ve had in the water. While free diving the back of the reef we had a surprise visit by a mother and calf dugong. They were so inquisitive they came right up to us and circled around for a few minutes before continuing on their way.



The bond between mother and calf is extremely strong often times continually touching each other while swimming. The calf will stay with the mother for up to 2 years before becoming independent.
