Honoured to have been welcomed to Port Macquarie's Pride walk for IDAHOBIT Day

Weather may have kept numbers down but the joy marching against homophobia, biphobia, interphobia and transphobia was worth a getting a bit damp.

IDAHOBIT stands for the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia. Celebrated globally every May 17, it marks the historic day in 1990 when the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases.
The day serves as a worldwide celebration of sexual and gender diversities and a call to action to raise awareness for the ongoing discrimination and challenges faced by the LGBTIQA+ community.

I haven't been to Sydney in over a year and it's been longer since I've done any kind of street photography.

So I'm a bit rusty and really didn't like most of what I snapped, but here is a selection of what I didn't hate 😅

I'm torn by the capitalisation of Pride, the Rainbow Dollar etc - on one hand I understand it's a money grab, pandering to the LGBTQIA+ community. But on the other hand, surely more exposure and acceptance is a good thing?
It was disheartening seeing corporate floats at Mardi Gras, but I realise the funding must come from somewhere and I'm broke!

Interested in hearing your (polite) thoughts.

Mardi Gras 2026 done and dusted!

A little bit more subdued this year, attended purely as a spectator a didn’t even take my camera as I wanted to fully enjoy the atmosphere!!

Surrounded by love, light and laughter with some amazing friends - it was amazing!

But I think I’ll try and participate again next year though - it was great watching but I want to be a bigger part of the celebrations.
I’m not an exhibitionist I swear! 🤭

Another from our playing with light whips!
0 kept posting videos and I kept planning to capture some of the beauty but we finally made it happen!
YAY!

I have about a bajillion images from our short session and am mindful not to flood the internet with them all, but I will post a small collection over the next week or so (as time permits)

Huges thanks to our amazing friend Tash for letting me play with her light whips!

SOOOOO much fun - even in the wind and the humidity and my unco arse! 😂

But this helped me nail a technique I have been dying to test for a while and so now I am ready to organise something I have been thinking about for ages. (and should have time to get to before I turn 80!)
