Australia.
Thank you.
I wasn’t born in this country but was given the opportunity to build a life here. I hadn’t ever seen the night sky without light pollution and this was one of many gifts this corner of the world introduced to me.
This land has given me a new energy, one that is available to everyone of us who walks upon it and respects it.
And I am truly grateful.

Rotation.
A star trail time lapse. The images for this were shot last year at Lake Towerrinning.
I normally render these star trail videos at a higher frame rate but decided to choose a particularly slow one for this scene to patiently show off the wonderful rotational journey that we’re all going through every single second of the day and night.

Every Sense.
Creativity is one thing. The adventure is another. But shooting at night can make you feel alive in so many other ways too. You see how beautiful our surroundings are in a new light (or perhaps in a lack of light). The world is extraordinary after dark.
In less light your other senses are also boosted. Every sound is completely clear. Some sounds can be scary (don’t even get me started on the bloody awful shriek foxes make) but you’re also completely alive to everything else going on around you that the day time can drown out.
Your sense of smell is amplified - during this shoot I was surrounded by both the soothing sound and the scent of the ocean. The tea and chocolate I brought along for the journey became even more appreciated than they normally would too - a treat for all the effort us night shooters make.
With less distractions the rough rocks become more alive, especially with the challenge of maintaining balance as i clambered over them with around 15kg of camera gear.
And this whole experience is topped off by those incredible peaceful moments that only long exposure photography underneath a clear sky night can provide.
Does heaven on earth exist? - yes. You’ll find it at around 2am.

Lily.
I don’t really feel the need to find too many words for this one - I’ve said on a previous post how this place was a dream of mine to shoot at.
I can only hope the image can say everything else.

A golden hour to darkness time lapse shot over 6 hours using a total of 782 frames.
I had some low level lighting already setup so as the day light faded the truck would be illuminated whilst the Milky Way core set in the western skies.

On The Rocks.
This was taken at Shelley Cove in WA’s south west.
It’s a 16 position panorama. We had discovered this little beach during the afternoon - I hadn’t actually planned to do a shoot here but noticed that if I stood on the rocks I’d be able to get a composition facing west. A quick check of photopills confirmed this.
And that was it - no obsessive planning with this one! I just rocked up at 8.30pm, took this one composition and left.
I absolutely love the SW of WA - I feel so at home there amongst the beautiful beaches, epic landscapes and numerous wineries. I have a very strong feeling that one day I’ll live there. And I hope that day isn’t too far away...

The Windmill.
I planned to do this shoot about 2 years ago but unfortunately never got the opportunity.
So when we headed south for a week of hiking, relaxing, good food, even better wine and of course, photography, I knew exactly where I wanted to stay.
The first night was cloudy.
So was the second - I was worried that I wouldn’t get the images I’d imagined.
But the last night was perfect.
Finally, the night shoot that I’d wanted to tick off the list so badly!
I bloody love that place. 🙂

Emotion.
It’s been an emotional few months. I’ve had to take a step away from social media, in fact, from photography in general.
As I’ve mentioned before, somethings are just far more important.
I only took this image as I needed to be below the stars to get my head around things and even though it was difficult to find creativity, I’m glad I went as the space to breathe did me good.
Along with posting this image I’d like to say thank you to loved ones for their support recently - you could say I’m surrounded by stars day and night - you’ve all been incredible.
Family ❤️
