Australia's favourite steam train/engine/locomotive (can’t upset the gunzels!)

Today, the legendary 3801 paid a visit to Wollongong while undertaking mainline trials following heavy maintenance.

Like many others, I had no idea she was out and about until videos of the famous 38 Class locomotive started appearing from various locations along the South Coast Line.

As someone who was absolutely obsessed with this locomotive as a kid, there was no way I was going to miss the opportunity. So, with little warning, I packed my son into the car and headed north for a quick trip to catch her before she departed the Illawarra.

A colourful chapter nearing its end.

Qantas Boeing 737-838 (VH-XZJ), wearing the beautiful "Mendoowoorrji" livery, taxis at Sydney Airport in the soft light of dawn.

Introduced in 2013, Mendoowoorrji ("safe journey" in the language of the Wunambal people of Western Australia) became the second aircraft in Qantas' Indigenous Art Series and has been a familiar sight across the Australian skies for more than a decade.

With VH-XZJ reportedly soon to enter the paint shop, this distinctive artwork may not be seen for much longer. A reminder that even the most iconic liveries eventually become part of aviation history.

I was fortunate to capture her at Sydney last week, looking as impressive as ever.

HMNZS Te Kaha (F77) and HMNZS Te Mana (F111), the Royal New Zealand Navy's two Anzac-class frigates. Built for operations across the Pacific and beyond, these warships have been the backbone of New Zealand's naval combat capability for nearly three decades.

Digging through the archive, I realised I've managed to photograph all of New Zealand's frigates over the years — which sounds more impressive when you remember there are only two of them!
