The light, the location, the gentle direction, that's all me. You just get to be present and enjoy the moment.

This week a very good friend had her Facebook account hacked.
Permanently disabled.
Not just that- her Instagram as well.
Incredibly devastating.
Mostly, because mums - it’s an unwritten job description- we are the memory keepers.

Who has uploaded photos to Facebook- especially for the mems?

I did. Always. And in 2021, my account too was disabled. Many photos, never to see again.

Back in the day, we used to have negatives.

Little strips of film that quietly sat in a drawer, protecting our memories for decades.

Now our photos live on phones, cloud accounts, hard drives and USBs.

And if I’m honest, as a photographer, I sometimes wonder what we’ll be using in another 5 or 10 years.

Technology changes.

Formats change.

Devices become obsolete.

But one thing hasn’t changed…

The photos that survive are the ones we intentionally protect.

My recommendation?

✔️ Cloud storage
✔️ External hard drive
✔️ A second backup
✔️ Printed photographs
✔️ Albums your children can flick through one day. Whether that’s a printed bound album, or 6x4’s printed into a slip album.

Because your family photos aren’t just files.

They’re your children’s history.

Posed family photos are overrated and I'll die on that hill 🧡

I know firsthand how hard it is, wrangling the kids, planning the outfits, aligning everyone's schedules and then spending the whole drive there worrying whether the kids will actually behave
So I don't ask them to

My sessions are built around fun, not posing. Belly laughs, thumbs up from dad, nose kisses with mum, a place where your family feels comfortable enough to just be yourselves

And because we shoot exclusively on my own private property at Owen's Gap, there's no one else around. No strangers, no noise, no distractions, just your family, open paddock, and golden light as far as you can see 🌅
