The Hunter's Moon - the biggest of the supermoons for the year rising between Stephen's Peak and Tomaree earlier this evening.
The Hunter’s Moon is called a supermoon because it will appear bigger and brighter than a typical full moon. This supermoon followed last month’s Harvest Moon, which allowed extra light for farming, and fields are clear for hunters to more easily spot animals. The name was originally considered a signal for hunters to begin preparing for winter.
Taken from Gan Gan lookout just after sunset in the hope of also seeing the comet, which was unfortunately obscured by some unforecast cloud.

Boat Harbour was a hive of activity tonight with so many people taking in the spectacle in the southern sky. Thanks to Maree Jeffs-Neely for allowing me to join her spot on the western side of the ramp. The flannel flowers and the clouds really made it interesting. It started raining which was not forecast, but I got to experience something special tonight :)

One of my favourite nights of the year as a kid was cracker night. Going out into the cold night air to experience the sights, sounds and smells was pure delight. tom thumbs, penny bungers, roman candles, Catherine wheels, pearl shooters and sky rockets.

Those days are long gone, but at least I can still go out in the cold and experience the passing of the Milky Way over Tomaree. It's nature's way of taking me back to those days of innocence, fun and squeals of delight. Back then we couldn't wait to become grownups. You never realised back then how much you would end up missing those days.

Here I am at the Coles Big Freeze Tanilba Bay community event.

So far, no sign of the mystery ice skating rink that Facebook made up - but there’s music, entertainment, heaps of market stalls and food and fun.

It’s on at Henderson Park in Lemon Tree Passage until 2pm, so get your skates on and come on down 😊
