Finally, a little break in the weather! Not that I'm complaining โ€” I think we all welcomed the rain. After finishing work early, I headed down to check on my favourite pair of Azure Kingfishers. They didn't look too impressed with the winter cold snap, but it was still wonderful to spend some time watching these beautiful little birds.

Last night's rare Blue Micromoon was a beautiful sight in the night sky. This phenomenon occurs because the lunar cycle (approximately 29.5 days) doesn't align perfectly with our calendar months, occasionally resulting in two full moons within a single calendar month โ€” the second of which is known as a Blue Moon May 1 (Flower moon).
At the same time, the Moon was near its farthest point from Earth in its orbit, making it a Micromoon and appearing slightly smaller and dimmer than a typical full moon. While the difference is subtle to the naked eye, it's still a fascinating celestial event and a great reminder of the mechanics of our solar system, hope this moon brings you all heightened intuition, luck, and for setting powerful long-term intentions. ๐ŸŒ•โœจ

While the Golden Whistler normally prefers the safety of dense forests and woodlands, the cooler months often see them move into lower-altitude areas, making occasional appearances in residential neighbourhoods. Gardens with plenty of leaf litter are prime spots to attract these beautiful birds, as they are avid hunters of insects and spiders.

If you're lucky enough to have one visit your backyard, take a moment to enjoy it โ€” the Golden Whistler's vibrant yellow plumage and beautiful song are always a welcome sight! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ‚

My most loved bird of prey โ€” thereโ€™s nothing more breathtaking than watching the majestic Wedge-tailed Eagle soaring through our big Australian skies, especially with the escarpments of the Capertee Valley creating such a stunning backdrop. These powerful raptors never fail to leave me in awe. ๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿงก๐ŸคŽ

Went for our usual Saturday morning drive down the valley in search of raptors, and it turned out to be a very successful outing. We spotted four species, including Whistling Kites, a Brown Falcon, and my favourite โ€” the majestic Wedge-tailed Eagle. ๐Ÿฆ…

On my drive home I came across this Brown Falcon being harassed by a group of Ravens. I waited for it to land so I could approach and noticed one wing hanging slightly โ€” possibly injured, which may be why the ravens saw it as vulnerable and started attacking. I stayed nearby for a while and it was able to fly, but only short distances. Hopefully it will be okay ๐Ÿคž

After some time away from social mediaโ€”and giving my camera a well-earned restโ€”I think itโ€™s time to ease back into things.

Spent the afternoon watching an Azure Kingfisher at work, and wowโ€ฆ what a reminder of why I love this. These birds are super-fast and incredibly precise when they lock onto their prey. Blink and you miss it.

Feels good to be back, slowly but surely.

It was a moody afternoon spent with the eagles, with this image I experimented with removing most of the colours and keeping only the warmer tones in this image of a juvenile Wedge-tailed Eagle taking off. These raptors are incredibly powerful birds, and watching them launch into flight is always impressive.

While their numbers remain relatively stable across mainland Australia, populations in Tasmania are listed as endangered, with an estimated 120โ€“250 breeding pairs. On the mainland, however, there is no precise estimate of breeding pairs.
