Sometimes, when you’re working on a corporate shoot, it’s good to look out the window.
These were taken around Sydney CBD in 2005, on Fujifilm Velvia 50, in between shoots. At the time I was in the process of moving from film to digital, so this roll was never finished. It ended up in the fridge for the next 20 years.
I recently put the roll back in the camera and exposed the remaining frames. The last image is the result the Sydney Harbour Bridge and North Sydney Olympic Swimming Pool as they look in 2026.
Interestingly, the photograph was taken just a few days before the pool reopened after a five-year renovation. So, in a way, it came back to life at the same time as the film.
Looking back at the 2005 images, they’re a bit of a time capsule too. Sydney has changed a lot in 20 years, and much of what you see in these photographs simply isn’t there anymore.
The film was a time capsule. The photographs turned out to be one too.
