Captured at sunrise near Old Adaminaby

Lake Eucumbene is a man made lake in the Snowy Mountains region, completed in 1958 as part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme, one of Australiaโ€™s most ambitious infrastructure projects. It plays a key role in hydroelectric power generation and irrigation across the eastern states.

During this visit, the water level was low, and the surrounding ground dry. Yet, in the stillness of the early morning light, there was a reminder that beauty and meaning often emerge from sparse and humble places.

Dry ground, still waters, and the first light of morning.
A landscape quietly preaching the story of Easter.

โ€œHe grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.โ€
โ€“ Isaiah 53:2

May this Holy Week lead us from stillness to light. โœ๏ธ

Captured this moody shot of Cope Hut during Autumn in the Victorian High Country with Jeff Freestone

The weathered tin and surrounding snow gums create an enchanting, timeless scene.

I can't wait to visit again, to capture it in fog or snow, and to experience its beauty through the changing seasons.

๐Ÿ‚ An autumn morning in Bright, where the silence is only broken by the cool air and the gentle rustling of leaves. The fog embraces the landscape, creating a peaceful scene as light and colour begin to warm up the day. This farm gate stands as a quiet sentinel, inviting you to pause and appreciate the simple beauty of nature.

This image is one I have longed to capture. It depicts a simple yet profoundly beautiful scene, highlighting the rich colours and misty ambience of an autumn morning. While it is a popular and well-known spot, it remains a cherished addition to my portfolio.

The cool air and the stillness of the scene remind me of Psalm 23:2-3:

"He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his nameโ€™s sake."

This verse invites us to pause and reflect, finding peace and enjoyment in the silence and the beauty of creation.

Captured in the early morning mist, Aberdoon House stands as a testament to the rich history and serene beauty of Rouse Hill. The soft fog envelops the scene, lending an air of mystery and timelessness, much like the stories this old Colonial Georgian Cottage holds. The image evokes a sense of peace and reflection, perfectly illustrated by Psalm 90:1: "๐ฟ๐‘œ๐‘Ÿ๐‘‘, ๐‘ฆ๐‘œ๐‘ข โ„Ž๐‘Ž๐‘ฃ๐‘’ ๐‘๐‘’๐‘’๐‘› ๐‘œ๐‘ข๐‘Ÿ ๐‘‘๐‘ค๐‘’๐‘™๐‘™๐‘–๐‘›๐‘” ๐‘๐‘™๐‘Ž๐‘๐‘’ ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ๐‘ข๐‘”โ„Ž๐‘œ๐‘ข๐‘ก ๐‘Ž๐‘™๐‘™ ๐‘”๐‘’๐‘›๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘ ."

The fog, much like the challenges and uncertainties in our lives, can obscure our path. Yet, just as the house remains steadfast and visible through the mist, so too does God's presence remain constant and unwavering through the trials we face. This scene invites us to pause, reflect, and find solace in the enduring nature of God's promises.

โ€ข Location: Clower Avenue, Rouse Hill, NSW.
โ€ข Architectural Style: Old Colonial Georgian Cottage.
โ€ข Historical Significance: An example of early settlement architecture in the Rouse Hill district.
โ€ข Land Grant: Originally granted to Thomas Clower, a former convict, on 13 January 1818.
โ€ข Subsequent Ownership: Purchased by Hugh Kelly in 1826, who named the farm "Vinegar Hill Farm."
โ€ข Later Developments: The property was subdivided by Alexander and William Gamack in 1841.
โ€ข Renovation Date: The date 1887 above the lintel is assumed to mark a major renovation.
โ€ข Recent Renovations: Renovated by The Hills Shire Council in 2003.

Aberdoon House is a historical landmark that reminds us of the resilience and pioneering spirit of the early settlers. The foggy dawn encapsulates the blend of history and nature, offering a moment of stillness and reflection in our busy lives.

Photography is often about timing and light. What I love about autumn is how the daytime light transforms shaded areas into a masterpiece of vivid colours. The way the sunlight filters through, highlighting the deep, rich hues against a backdrop of subtle tones, makes each shot a work of art. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“ธโœจ

๐Ÿ‚โœจ Switching it up from my usual! As a landscape photographer, Iโ€™m all about those sweeping panoramas. But my recent trip to Bright, Victoria, had me zooming in rather than out. Big thanks to my mate Jeff from Freestone Photography for the nudge!

Jeffโ€™s a wizard with the close-up shots, and during our shoots, he got me thinking about the finer details. ๐Ÿ“ธ It's opened up a whole new perspective in my work!

Funny story: while we were getting up close with these vivid deciduous leaves (pretty sure they're maples!), Jeff throws out, "Why not a pano of the leaves?" Was he serious? Maybe, maybe not... but challenge accepted, and hereโ€™s the result! ๐Ÿ˜‚ What do you reckon?

After nearly a year away from the lens, tending to family, it felt invigorating to embrace nature once more. I recently visited Bright in Victoria, where autumn wears its heart on every leaf. Among the vivid canvases, the famed yellow Ginko tree by the Ovens River stood out, a golden gem in Victoria's crown. It's moments like these that remind us of the serene beauty our world holds, just waiting to be captured.

Thanks to my new good mate Jeff, who runs Freestone Photography, for being my guide! I highly recommend any workshops he runs.

During a January family holiday to Port Macquarie, I had my eyes set on this particular lighthouse (Tacking Point Lighthouse). It beckoned me throughout the week, but the elements conspired against the perfect shot. Finally, on a break of dawn, I seized the opportunity to capture not just the day's first light, but also the twilight glow of the lighthouse. I christened this panorama "Dawn Handover," symbolising the celestial shift of duty from the lighthouse's vigilant beam to the sun's awakening rays.

I'm proud to share that this piece garnered a Bronze award in both the Amateur and Open categories of the Epson International Pano Awards. Amidst fierce competitionโ€”with 1,104 photographers and 4,342 entries across categoriesโ€”it's a gratifying acknowledgment of a moment that was as fleeting as it was beautiful.

I will leave you with this thought:
In a world saturated with images, what makes a photograph not just seen, but truly observed?

A recent panoramic photo from near Feathertop Winery in Victoria. As dawn broke, the fog, still thick, seemed like a painter's palette, smudging the world with hues of mystery and enchantment. Against this misty canvas, the trees flaunted their autumnal colours, their crisp edges softening in the cool air, creating a panorama that was as captivating as it was serene.
