Monochrome Madness #62 – Taking a jug on a little vacation to the city

When Brian from Bushboy’s World said he wanted to do JUGS for the theme for Monochrome Madness #62 I had all these ideas for some still-life images. Then I wasn't sure how I would do them. When I did my fine arts degree I spent a lot of time drawing jugs and pretending they were people and I thought maybe I would do that....

A train station in RAW and black and white

A few weeks ago, I showed you a photo of Flinders Street Station, as if it were abandoned. I asked if you wanted to see the black and white version, as well as the RAW image. You, or some of you, said yes. Here is the black and white version. I wonder if it makes it more sinister or more abandoned....

Macro Monday – Spring Starflower in black and white

Another flower image from the archives has been newly processed. I used ON1 Photo RAW 2026 again to process this. They have a lot of options for doing black and white, and I like that. I really liked the composition of this one. It isn't open fully, but it is getting there. It is like fingers reaching up to the sun. I like how it looks in black and white. The header image is a cropped version of the main one.

Floral Friday – A forgotten bloom from last year

While looking for flower photos, I came across this one. I get lots of these from bulbs every year. They are very small flowers, but a lot of fun to photograph. Though my knees don't enjoy having to get that low to photograph them. It was very different to many of my images. Not the flower itself, but the lighting in it....

A photo from the Docklands on a quiet evening in 2018

I was going through my old folders of photos and found this one from 2018, taken when I was doing one of my One-on-One lessons, and I got this image. I forgot that I used to teach people. I love it when water is really still, and you get a mirror-like reflection. This wasn't quite that still, but you can see the reflections in it....

Monochrome Madness – Getting back to slowing the shutter down

I might have told you that for my birthday this year, I got some new ND filters. I couldn't think of anything I really wanted, and then I remembered the Kase magnetic ND Filters I had been considering. I love doing long exposures, but the way the square filters work makes it harder and more time-consuming. I knew that the magnetic ones would be so much easier....

A different view of the building in Latrobe Street, Melbourne

A few weeks ago, I showed you some photos of a building in Latrobe Street that I had photographed for the first time. I'm going to put links to those posts at the end of this one. Those views images give you two sides of the building, but I also took some looking straight up at it when I first saw it....

Macro Monday – Carrot flowers and an onion flower in black and white

When I did the photos for last week's Floral Friday, I found the following photos in the same folder. They are, as the title says, carrot flowers and an onion flower, in that order. These are white, and I think they work really well in black and white. I think it makes them more interesting, I hope you agree.
