The memories are in the small details you want to hold onto forever.

My son spent hours tossing this pot into the water. Every throw was followed by the same stern look of concentration before he pulled it straight back up to check for yabbies.

As a mum, you know he’s probably not going to catch anything with that level of enthusiasm, but that’s not really the point, is it?

The determination. The focus. The freedom to explore the world around him. That’s what it’s all about.

I love these images from that afternoon. One day I’ll look back at them and remember everything about him in that moment - who he was, that afternoon by the water, when he was just a little boy tossing his pot, hoping to catch a fish.

Your family photos at this tender age for me is all about the small things, I love in home family photoshoots exactly for that reason.

We move through the house, following light but also following where family memories are made. Mum and dad’s bed, where morning snuggles happen every day, the kitchen, the heart of the home, and the backyard where afternoon play and learning about the birds and the bees takes place.

Show me your life and I’ll capture it just as it is today, that way it lives forever.

My style of newborn photography is a little different. 🤍

I’m not about tightly wrapping babies into little cocoons or placing them in baskets in poses that don’t feel natural to them. Instead, I focus on your baby exactly as they are - sleepy stretches, curious eyes, tiny movements.

If your baby is awake, we lean into it. Some of my favourite images come from those moments where they’re quietly taking in the world around them for the very first time. Their expressions, their curiosity, the way they settle into your arms, that’s the magic.

I love using soft muslins or family blankets, especially ones that hold meaning. Maybe it was gifted by a grandparent, handmade  by someone you love, or already part of your everyday life at home. Those little details matter because they become part of your family’s memories too.

My sessions are natural, baby-led, and focused on connection over perfection. No forced posing, no pressure for baby to “perform.” Just your real family, loving on your newest little person in a way that feels relaxed, honest, and true to you.

Years from now, I want these photos to feel like memories, not trends. 🤍

This photo makes me feel something deep in my chest.

I look at these hands wrapped safely around a newborn and I’m instantly taken back to my own son. I can almost physically remember what it felt like to hold him when he was only days old, the weight of him fitting entirely in my hands, the softness of his skin, the constant awareness of supporting his tiny head.

At the time, those days felt endless. Exhausting and beautiful all at once. I never imagined how quickly they would disappear.

Now he’s 5. He runs into school with confidence, climbs into bed beside me feeling heavy and long and grown. And sometimes I catch myself trying so hard to remember exactly what those newborn days felt like.

That’s why photographs like this matter to me so much. They hold the parts of motherhood and parenthood that time quietly steals from us. Not just what our babies looked like, but what it felt like to love them in those earliest days. 🤍

I remember bringing our daughter home.

Our son was only two, but all of a sudden he looked so big. A real big brother. Everyone gathered around him, gently encouraging “soft hands” and “careful”, while he held her for the very first time.

Then came that moment, the slow sinking backwards into the couch cushions, not quite knowing how to hold her, or how to let go.

Bringing your second baby home feels so new all over again. Your heart stretched between your first baby who suddenly seems older overnight, and this tiny new person you’re all learning together.

Imagine having those very moments captured forever, in your family history. Nothing could ever top it. Reach out today if you’re expecting and would like to capture this time before it gets away. Link in bio or send me a DM 😊 🤎 photographer

One of the biggest worries I hear from mums before a session is, “What if my toddler is shy?” or “What if they don’t want to be in the photos?” 🤍

This new mum of two had the exact same worry. But the moment I walked through the door, her little boy was so excited to see me arrive.

That’s one of the reasons I love in-home newborn sessions so much, especially when there’s a new big brother or sister adjusting to life with baby. Home is their safe place, they feel comfortable there. They can take breaks when they need to, play with their toys, show me their favourite things, or proudly help mum and dad with the baby.

There’s no pressure for your toddler to sit still and smile at the camera the whole time. I follow their lead and let the session unfold naturally, because that’s where the real moments happen.

This session felt so warm and wholesome. So much love filling their family home, just as they are in this season of life 🤍

I take a lot of time and care to photograph the small details of every newborn. These features change so quickly, the tiny wrinkly feet, the soft fluffy hair, the way they curl perfectly into your chest.

In the blur of newborn life, it’s easy to think you’ll always remember it exactly as it is now. But before you know it, they’ve stretched out, the newborn scrunch is gone, and those tiny details begin to fade from memory.

That’s why these photographs matter. Not just for you, but for your children one day too. A way to hold onto the feeling of these early days forever.

My newborn sessions are slow, gentle and completely baby-led, creating natural images that feel warm, connected and true to your family. 🤍

I dream of photos like this with my children.

Not ones taken quickly on an iPhone but the kind where my kids are looking at me with pure love, and I get to just be mum.

I want to remember these days exactly as they are, because I know that without photos, the memories slowly blur together. The tiny details that feel so big right now start to fade.

I want my motherhood documented and remembered, not for perfection, but for me.

The biggest fear I hear from mums?

“That it’ll feel awkward… that the kids won’t cooperate… that it’ll be stressful.”

And honestly? I get it, I’m a mum too.

But sessions like this one always remind me what actually matters 🤍

“We couldn’t be happier with the experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, she had a wonderful way of putting everyone at ease, no stiff poses or awkward moments, just a relaxed and enjoyable session that felt completely natural.

Sarah has a real gift for finding those candid, heartfelt moments that you’ll want to treasure forever.”

This is exactly what I want for every family who walks through the door - slow, calm, and completely you. Yeppoon & Rockhampton family photographer capturing relaxed, natural moments for young families — at home or outdoors by the coast

If you’ve been waiting for the “right time”… this is it.

I didn’t have maternity photos. Do I regret it? Fence sitter...

When I was pregnant I really didn’t like the look of all these staged maternity shoots. I don’t like being the centre of attention, and I don’t like making a big deal of myself. I looked at the maternity images around me and it made me cringe.

When I shot this wonderful and natural maternity session it made me feel regretful. This is the type of session I could have done.

Swimming in a creek with my family, that’s something I do all the time, that’s me. These images I see in front of me look like art, but of a person who is so content with her surroundings, I could do that.

I love this, this is why I do this. I want you to feel comfortable, to feel you, create art.
