Rain Forest Reflections (iPhone image.) Cascade Dam - Derby - Tasmania
From today’s MTB ride - perfect spring weather, still chilly after overnight frost but otherwise perfect riding conditions.
Cascade Dam is currently at maximum capacity following recent rainfall and supplies the local agricultural irrigation system. Levels drop considerably during dry periods revealing the remains of submerged trees adding an eerie atmosphere to this beautiful rest spot popular with mountain bikers on the Dambusters Trail.

‘Sundown Silhouette’ - Winnaleah - Tasmania.
Another iPhone snap taken on an evening stroll around our now permanent new home village. These huge ‘Paddock’ trees are a major feature of our new surroundings - dotted across the landscape they will provide excellent subject matter for future photographic projects.

A ‘non arty’ tourist snap of the remarkable granite landscape of the eastern Tasmania coastline around the township of Bicheno. Here nature needs no help - its a work of art in it own right!!

‘Natural Sculpture’

As we settle in to some kind of ‘normal life’ in Tasmania at last some time to relax and explore our surroundings.
After the long and exhausting business of selling up on Skye, the complex process of emigration, a very tiring flight and catching Covid we find ourselves at last able to enjoy the fruits of all the time and effort its taken to make this transition possible.
We are currently on the east coast of Tasmania at the beach ‘resort’ of Scamander - a quite surf beach village near the small and charming fishing township of St Helens. Our current rental home is a few hundred metres from the pounding surf and today, as my wife Jacki settles back into her work routine, I found an hour or so to wonder around and take a few photographs - albeit only iPhone shots the potential is very evident. My ‘proper’ camera gear is currently in transit - somewhere on the ocean on a container ship - hopefully it will survive the journey and I will be able to create some images that will do this amazing place due justice! Skyescape Gallery is now permanently closed.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all who visited the gallery or attended our photography workshops and to everyone who supported the gallery over the years.
It’s been a joy to live and work in the wonderful environment of Skye and the Scottish Highlands and the memories of our time here will always be cherished.
It’s now time to move on - we will however maintain an on-line presence and this page will continue under the name of ‘Russell Sherwood Photography’.
We look forward to the new challenges in our life and in our endeavours to capture the unfamiliar and very different landscapes of Tasmania!

As our departure from Skye approaches (although currently delayed) I've been pondering on the wealth of photographic opportunties this beautiful island has gifted. Looking back I've probably spent more hours in this location than any other on Skye. It always rewards, although I don't think I ever got it quite 'right'.
Nonetheless, the many hours spent here were always enjoyable despite the wind/rain/midges and tourists!

The end of an era - it’s not without some sadness and regret that we are finally bringing an end to 14 years of running Skyescape Gallery. We would like to thank all who took the time to pay us a visit and to those who were kind enough to purchase a piece of work. We have made many good friends through the gallery over the years and our time here has been both rewarding and joyful.
Our door will officially close for good on JAN 31st 2024 - in the meantime will be open normal hours ( 11am - 5pm weekdays) whenever possible - all remaining stock must go - half price sale now on!!

We are on the move - after 14 years of enjoying our wonderful life on Skye its time to move on to new adventures. The Gallery will remain open until our departure but our stock of prints and framed images will not be renewed. We aim to close by the end of year.
