'Marblesque'
During visits to galleries in Rome, I was profoundly moved by the virtuosity of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Antonio Corradini’s ‘Veiled Lady’, and Giovanni Strazza’s ‘Marble Veil’. Stone becomes breath; weight becomes weightless; opacity becomes translucence. The veil, carved from solid rock, appears soft enough to lift with a fingertip. It both reveals and protects, intensifies and obscures.
This body of work continues that centuries-old dialogue between material and illusion. Where the Baroque masters transformed marble into fabric, I translate that same tension through photography — using light, movement, and flowing white cloth to echo the paradox they achieved in stone. Their sculptures fixed a fleeting softness into permanence; my images suspend a living body within a momentary architecture of folds.
The veil becomes a mediator between past and present, sculpture and photograph, solidity and fragility. It traces the contours of the female form while simultaneously interrupting the gaze. Concealment becomes a form of revelation. What is withheld gains presence; what is softened gains strength.
