About Me:

Hi, my name is Kelli and I am the owner/operator of ‘Tales of Light Photography’. I was born and raised in Western Australia often moving around the Western & Northern suburbs, also spending a lot of my teenage years up on the North West Coast in Shark Bay. Since the moment I was earthbound I was introduced into the world of Photography. As a now ‘third generation’ photographer, it was

pretty clear that this is what I was born to do (even though for many years I couldn’t see that for myself). Since I can remember, I have been in a studio or on location by my Mums side, assisting with portraits, weddings and then to advertising fashion. I would help her with location hunting for the perfect spot for the next photoshoot (this was so much fun going on sometimes wild adventures), testing light, holding reflectors, moving and placing props, rubbing the polaroid test shot to warm it up so she could make sure the lighting and composure was perfect, and even being a model for numerous catalogues and magazines. My Mum was one of the best Perth had to offer back in those days and had won herself numerous state & national awards in the industry. This was before digital photography was even a thing, when everything was captured on transparency film and then processed in a dark room (which again I would help with….I will never forget the smell of those chemicals). Meaning there was absolutely no room for error, and if there was error, it had to be completely re-shot again. So, the theory of get it right in the camera to start with has definitely stuck with me! At 17 I started a hairdressing apprenticeship which I completed and then worked in for a while before deciding to travel the world with a backpack on for 8 months. When I got back to WA I tried my hand at a few different career paths, but in my late 20s I was drawn back to photography and got myself a basic entry level Canon Camera. It was as if a light switch had been turned on in my body and everything started to flow naturally and fall into place, as if I had literally been photographing my whole life. I instinctively knew what to do. So with the help of my Mum guiding me, my passion for photography ignited! It started off with just photographing my own children, then onto families, maternity and even the odd wedding or two. Though the one thing I have always been drawn to is the ocean, the magic and beauty that surrounds her is something that truly runs through my veins and for whatever reason, I feel connected to her. So naturally, this is where my attention turned to, capturing magical moments of Mother Nature whilst adding my own creative flair. Thank you for taking the time to read a little bit about myself and I hope it has given you some insight into why I do what I do and how I got here. I hope you enjoy following my journey at ‘Tales of Light Photography’ and it can bring some beautiful vibes your way.

The art to finding what we truly want in life is to find out who we are. Not what people think or say what we should be, but that inner voice and feeling that moulds us and guides us into the person we need to be.
Too often 'society' expects and demands otherwise, but if we stay true to ourselves and really listen to what that inner voice is saying, our light will shine bright enough that nothing or no one can dim it!
In life the 'I wants & I needs' are two totally different things. For example, when we say 'I want to be happy', we immediately subconsciously unwillingly set ourselves up for failure. Instead, if we focus on the 'I NEED to be happy', we can set our minds to that specific goal.
We don't always get what we want, but more often than not, we get what we need.
By planting that seed in our minds, we give ourselves the permission, courage and determination to make that seed bloom 💕

"The Healing Power of the Merfolk"

Mermaids are beings who show us how to love ourselves. Put most simply, this is because they love themselves without guilt, fear or hesitation. They teach us how we can celebrate our sensuality. They revere the feminine, and they glory in our fertility, our desires, our beauty and our instinctuality.
They ask us to sing our song again.
Mermaids teach us how to connect deeply with our emotionality - a trait typically spoken of as feminine, and often regarded as a weakness.
With the help of Mermaids, we are able to feel deeply, without the negative impact of conditional shame.

Mother Nature putting on a show with a final pop of colour 💕🌅🌊
This was taken on my tripod Thursday night while I was flitting between two cameras. At the start it didn't look as though it was going to do too much, then boom.....that last pop after the sun had set was just beautiful!!!

"I need to get my tail wet!"

This is something that I often say when I'm feeling like I'm 'drying out' and need to soak myself in the ocean and reconnect to my heart & soul.

There is something so soothing about submerging yourself in the salt water and becoming one with it. It's as if it washes away any current worries or stresses of the everyday world and enables you to feel at peace and brings you back to basics. This allows you to focus on the here and now, that exact moment in time and let's you appreciate what truly matters.

My children often laugh at me when I say 'my scales are drying out and I need to get my tail wet', but they love it and understand that is a necessary part of our life.

So keep in mind, the next time you're feeling down, overwhelmed, stressed or just simply need some time out, go and get your tail wet! If the beach isn't your thing or is not accessible, take a long shower, have a bath (put some salt in it if you like), play in a river or a creek. Just get that damn tail wet!

Your mind, body and soul with thank you for it 💙🙏

Rolling with two cameras tonight 🙌
One on a tripod with a wide angle lens and low shutter speed, and another with my trusty art lens capturing something a bit different 😜 this was a workout and a half running between the two, but it sure was fun 💛🌅🌊
