Adelaide's tram network has had an interesting metamorphis. Started in 1878, it was virtually gone by 1958, except for one line. The Glenelg route, running from Victoria Square (Tarntanyangga) to Moseley Square, was converted to a reserved track interurban line to 1435mm gauge in 1929, starting as a 1600mm gauge steam worked line from 1873. Since the late 20th century, the network has been extended to the Botanic Gardens, Festival Plaza, and Entertain Centre. Glenelg itself is where the European settlers inro South Australia first landed, the colony being created in 1836, which was home to the Kaurna First Nationa people. The town visitor centre has a good museum that explores the somewhat fraught history of the relationship between the two, as well as the later history.
