Rex Ellis Hambling
Every year this day casually rolls around and If I’m honest I never quite know how to feel. Sad and grateful in a messy little bundle generally.
My grandad Rex was in the WW2 and I don’t have all that much information about it, he didn’t talk about it which is completely understandable. But I have always been so curious about his experience, I started to research it before our honeymoon and wanted to try go to some of the places but it got a little intense and didn’t feel like the right time.
One day I will write it all out, put all the stories and photos together so that we don’t lose it. I would love to do a trip and document the then vs now images.
He may not have been able to talk about it, and we never went to Anzac Day with him, it just wasn’t his thing, but the pride I feel having known the little that I do about what he went through is worth keeping for future generations.
Happy Anzac Day Grandad and thank you to all of those who served and sacrificed to keep us safe.
