Yesterday marked 56 years since the West Gate Bridge collapse, when 35 workers lost their lives on 15 October 1970.
It’s an honour to photograph this commemoration each year. Over the years, I’ve come to know many of the survivors, families and friends who gather beneath the bridge to remember those who died and those whose lives were changed forever.
These are a few moments from yesterday’s ceremony. The embraces, the flowers and the familiar faces are a reminder of how deeply this day is still felt.
