This little food stall was super captivating, because when I think “Thai food markets” I imagine loads of people, lots of smells and colours, fried bugs and fresh fruit all mashed into some kind of organised chaos. But just take a stroll down a couple of dark alleys and around the corner and you come past this lady and her stall all on her lonesome. I can’t help but wonder why she isn’t back inside the chaos. Is it because she simply doesn’t want to be there, or is it because she’s not allowed, maybe she had an argument with one of the other foodies and doesn’t want to confront them. Its more than likely a real simple explanation but if you let your imagination wonder it could be a cool story 🤷🏼‍♂️

Two friends talking in the middle of a busy Thai food market. I think this photo is quickly becoming one of my favourites. It makes you wonder how many endless nights these two have spent preparing food for the people passing by, exchanging stories or recipes. The food markets were always so hectic when you were walking down the middle of one, people moving everywhere, so many different colours and smells. But if you step to the side for a little while, and just sit and watch, the whole tempo changes, you begin to notice the smaller things. Time seems to slow down. I think this is important to do in every day life. You might get caught up in a river of emotions and stress, at work or in your day to day activities. Just remember to swim aside every now and then, just watch everything that’s going on and notice the small things. Meditate, listen to some musics, relax

I should say something corny like “just hang in there” but I’m not going to.. Dreaming of beautiful places like jungles in Sumatra, but also feeling blessed for living in one of the countries that have been least effected by this epidemic. We can complain all we want about restrictions and social distancing, the pubs closing blah blah blah, but the proof is in the pudding and we have been able to manage this epidemic far better than most.. just ride it out! At the same time pls open the pubs soon scomo 🍺 🤤

It’s actually crazy how much the atmosphere changes when you go for a walk outside your camp and take a look back. It’s like walking onto another planet! I think this shows that sometimes it’s good to step outside your comfort zone and take a look back, there’s so much more to see. I can’t wait til this corona s**t is over so I can get uncomfortable

Thought I’d share my first attempt a doing a time lapse of the stars from a lil camping mission recently. Bit to work on but this has definitely got me keen to dive into the time lapse world a bit more!! Don’t forget to stay home kids 🙄

Sometimes it’s nice to dive a bit deeper into small details from different cultures. You would probably notice that Chinese cultures are often flooded with red, red lanterns, red signs, symbology and a red flag 🇨🇳 But did you know this is because red represent luck, joy and happiness, I hope you’re feeling a bit red today!!

Where would you think this photo was taken? If I wasn’t the one who took it I would have guessed China 🤷🏼‍♂️ Its a bit of a funny concept to me that sometimes travelling to a place like Kuala Lumpur, doesn’t necessarily mean you are going to explore that countries culture. I’ve spent a bit of time in KL over the last three months and the food I ate most was Indian, and the most photos I took were in Chinatown and in Indian temples.. So although I was in Malaysia, the cultures I explored the most was Chinese and Indian, go figure.

I find it funny how my motivations in photography have varied so much over time. I started taking photos almost purely of surfing and waves but with time my interests changed and I felt more motivated to take photos of landscapes and people. I suppose a new challenge is to do my best of combining the two. Por que no los dos 🤷🏼‍♂️

Someone said to me before travelling to Sumatra that I should be careful about expressing my religious views here and that I should prepare myself for the people here, as if to say they are rude or unfriendly. Boy oh boy were they wrong, so far the majority of people I have come across are super friendly and open to other people’s way of life. Most of the time people are just excited to get to practice English with you and learn about where you come from!!! Having been told something in such contrast to my actual experiences has made me realise that travelling to new places with different cultures is for the most part what you make it, if you put out bad vibes and strong opinions I’m sure that’s exactly what you will get back 🤷🏼‍♂️ that being said, there are times when cultural differences need to be understood and respected, people are open to different cultures but there’s no need to rub your way of life in their face

I’ve been in Sumatra for 2 months now, and I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve seen even a quarter of what there is to see here. This thought put into perspective why some people spend their whole lives travelling.
