BortleOne 🌌

We drove out here to camp — me, Liz and Gav — with the intention of shooting the setting Milky Way. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay awake long enough for that, so I had to go a little rogue and get abstract while we were out there. 😂

I absolutely love the way the rock face curled over us and framed the Milky Way. This spot has a Bortle 1 sky, making it one of the darkest and best skies I’ve had the chance to shoot under.

And honestly, seeing it with the naked eye was something else. Your eyes almost struggled to comprehend the number of stars you could see. The Milky Way just glowed above us, and you could actually see the gases and structure running through it. It wasn’t as bright as it appears in the final image, but it was absolutely incredible.

Not quite the scenes I had planned in my head, but I’m really happy with what I came away with. Sometimes you just have to go a little rogue and see what happens. ✨🌌

With storms predicted across the Wheatbelt today, we headed out towards Wongan Hills and eventually ended up further north, past Moora.

Unfortunately, no lightning for us — the storms were buried deep within a whole lot of rain. One area reportedly copped around 27 mm in a very short amount of time, and I’m pretty sure we were right in the middle of it! 🌧️🌩️

It was still such a fun day out. Ruby — the Subi — got a proper workout on those dirt roads, pushing her limits with a little bit of fishtailing… actually, a LOT of fishtailing! 😂

When we finally got out onto the road, we discovered the mud had completely filled the wheel wells. Luckily, with that huge amount of rain, the water had done us a favour and washed most of it all back out! 😂

The contrast of colours today was just beautiful — stormy, moody skies, brilliant yellow canola fields and those dark red Wheatbelt roads. ❤️💛🖤

No bolts, but I still managed to capture some beautiful scenes, and honestly, it was just so good to be back out amongst the storms again.

SolidRock 🪨

Exploring Elachbutting Rock with Gav & Liz on the weekend was super fun.

We’d planned to camp overnight here and shoot astro but were restricted with compositions with so many other campers we only stayed to explore.

Lucky we’d sussed another spot near-by that was much more suitable!

Anyway it was nice to spend some time here and explore properly and even walk through Monty’s Pass, a rock tunnel (or mini Echidna Gorge 🤣).

This massive granite rock is believed to be 2.5-3.5 billion years old (give or take a billion) it’s an amazing place with plenty of campsites! 🏕️

Lesmurdie Falls is cranking at the moment. I headed here after droning the fog and was pleasantly surprised to have the place to myself for a good 30 minutes!

100% try and get there early on a week day so you can enjoy the morning sound 💃🏻
