I received a call from a friend 2 weeks ago asking if I could do a paid photography gig for her office. My response was "Sorry, I don't do photography anymore. I can't deliver what you need."
It has been sooooo long since I picked up my camera. So long in fact that I had completely lost confidence in my ability to use it. After my second child was born, I got busy and tired and distracted and then time went by and I procrastinated and then felt bad about procrastinating so I procrastinated more and then found other creative outlets to fill my creative cup and kinda just forgot about it.
She called back this week to ask me again... Yes I have VERY pushy friends!! I agreed to get my camera out and then let her know....
These were the results from today's shoot in my garden... I had a very willing model, beautiful lighting and I absolutely LOVED getting behind the camera again!!
What has this taught me?
1: Having a break from something is not failing. There are different seasons in our lives and it is important to know and accept your own limits, prioritise and drop the things that are not working or bringing joy to that season.
2: It is possible to come back to something many years later and pick up where you left off.
3: Imposter syndrome is such a hinderance to creativity and opportunity. Tell that inner critic to take a hike and just give things a go!... You may be very surprised by the results.
What is something that you have closed the door on? Are you willing to join me and have another go??
Or... Is it time to close the door on something that is causing too much stress in this season? It's time to get brave people!
