Pyramiden - the super weird, creepy, abandoned Soviet-era coal mining town in Svalbard, Norway. Once home to 1000 people, now only about 5 or 6 Russians who maintain the place, keep polar bears away and run the super weird hotel you can stay at. No thanks. The Vodka was nice though

It was 1:30 a.m. when we woke to the crackle of the speaker in our room and the captain’s voice telling us to get up — there was a polar bear outside the boat. I slid out of my bunk, grabbed my camera, and headed outside. I couldn’t believe my eyes — this incredible, fluffy yet formidable apex predator was sniffing around just metres from the boat. I snapped a few shots, then stood there in awe as this powerful creature stared back at us. I’ll truly never forget that moment.
