A Community Guinness Record Dunk for Mental Health, photography by Alina Racu Photography
It all started with a crazy idea and a heart overflowing with empathy. Hughes discovered the therapeutic power of ice baths. The icy shock awakes our system, pushing
away the darkness of the mind and leaving us with a feeling of aliveness. Mark dreamt of sharing this icy embrace with others, of creating a community united by the chill and empowered by their shared mental health challenges. That’s how a Guinness record
idea was born: to break the Record for the most people submerged in an ice bath simultaneously, all while raising funds for mental health Beyond Blue. For some of the participants, was a first icy experience, for some others, another shiver all merged into
a harmonious blend of discomfort and camaraderie.
The power of volunteering, the togetherness bounded by the belief in One Life Live It's vision. Hundreds gathered, drawn by the promise of icy unity, a good cause – and a fun competition to set up a World record.
550 people entered the freezing pools. And then, the official announcement: a new Guinness World Record – 509 people 3 minutes under iced exposure! The crowd erupted with excitement for such a fabulous result! But this victory wasn't just about numbers. It was about the community bonds strengthened by shared discomfort, the lives touched by hope and everyone’s vulnerability, strength, and shared stories.
To be part of this amazing collective effort is a reminder that even the craziest ideas can blossom into something extraordinary with the right kind of support. It's a story
about the power of community, the resilience of the human spirit, and the transformative power of good.
