This is the first post here for several years. I considered deleting the page however it seemed easier just to leave it idle.

I am posting images daily at my page (Ken Abrahams) https://www.facebook.com/ken.abrahams/ and Instagram (ken_abrahams). https://www.instagram.com/ken_abrahams/So

I have decided to use this page for any earlier works which I hope you will like. I do love posting images taken on the same day or week because it shows my images from a current perspective and allows me to express the ebb and flow of my creative being.

However that does not leave any room to resume and rediscover older works which are outside of my "here and now" context. This image was taken in the St Georges Cathedral precinct on a day I chose to wander somewhere new/different in the City of Perth. .

My photographic excursion to Kalgoorlie Western Australia had a decidedly Australian cultural flavour. The City of Kalgoorlie is a tough old place with years of mining industry history reflected in its buildings and landscape.

I wandered the streets in my short stay, observing a hard working, family orientated community. Its a busy place with plenty of traffic and people coming and going all day long.

This was my first trip to Kalgoorlie except for a time when I was nineteen years old when I worked nearby at the Kambalda Nickel Mining camp kitchen.

Kalgoorlie exudes a strong identity belonging to an "older Australia". What I mean by that statement might stem from the City's early history and how in the gold rush days different nationalities flocked to the town in search of gold.

After a century of cultural integration Kalgoorlie seems to have retained what I mean by an "Australian Identity" compared to the modern evolving cosmopolitan Australian cities such as Melbourne and Sydney etc.

Kalgoorlie is like a "cultural time capsule" and very "Australian" as long as one understands that being an Australian means being culturally integrated.

I visited the suburb of Lakemba in NSW today. Lakemba is in the South West of Sydney between Campsie and Punchbowl. Lakemba is known as the unofficial Muslim capital of Australia as you might guess from looking at this fashion shop entrance.

There is a thick and seemingly deep cultural presence in the streets with distinctive aromas permeating the air. After enjoying the best Lebanese food I have ever eaten with my friend Michelle, I took a chance wandering with my camera. One wouldn't leap into their street photography w***y nilly here. I got a sense that it was wiser to show some respect while developing an inner relationship to ones own safety and the environment.

I wondered whether my own fear and ignorance about the (Middle Eastern) Muslim culture here in Australia and emerging so overwhelmingly here in Lakemba would restrict my photographic exploration. I decided that it required more time and that I would return tomorrow or next time around; To be better prepared to engage with the community here.
