Photos as home decor and how they help your child's sense of belonging.

In today's digital age, we capture countless moments through the lens of our smartphones. However, there's something incredibly special about printing and displaying family photos in our homes. Beyond being mere decorations, these images hold the power to shape our children's sense of belonging and self-esteem.

Visual Reminders of Love and Connection📸

Every photo on your wall tells a story, a story of love, joy, and togetherness. When your child sees these images daily, it reinforces their sense of belonging within the family unit. It's a reminder that they are an essential part of a loving and connected group. đź‘€This visual evidence of shared experiences and happy moments serves as a constant affirmation that they are cherished and loved.

One year, I decided to print out photos from our annual family portrait session and simply blu-tacked them to the doors of their wardrobe. I loved the idea that each night before they went to sleep, they would see this reminder of how much they are loved. Each year, I add a few more photos to the wardrobe doors. It's a beautiful timeline, watching our family grow together.

🤷When was the last time you printed out your photos?

15 Years as a Drama Teacher Taught Me These 5 Things About Kids

If you’ve ever wondered why your child “won’t cooperate” in photos…this is for you.

1. Kids don’t perform on command
The moment a child feels pressure to “be good” or “smile properly”… they shut down.
It’s not defiance. It’s discomfort.
Kids aren’t meant to perform on cue.
They’re meant to feel safe first.

2. Play unlocks authenticity
You can’t force a real smile.
But you can create an environment where it naturally happens.
When kids are playing, they forget they’re being watched.
And that’s when the magic shows up.

3. Movement beats stillness
“Sit still” and “look at the camera” goes against everything a child naturally wants to do.
Kids need to move. To explore.
To burn off that nervous energy.
The more freedom they have, the more relaxed they become.

4. Laughter is contagious
You don’t need to tell kids to smile.
You just need to give them something to laugh about
Silly games. Funny noises. Playful moments.
One giggle turns into another… and suddenly, everyone is relaxed.

5. Trust must be earned
Kids can feel when something is forced.
They don’t instantly connect with a stranger holding a camera.
But when you slow down, meet them where they’re at, and build trust first… everything changes.

This is why my sessions don’t feel like traditional photo shoots.

No pressure.
No forced smiles.
Just space for your kids to be themselves.

And that’s where the real moments live.

How To Confidently Book In Your Photo Session, And Love Yourself For Doing It: Part 3

Does this sound familiar?

“I don’t know what to wear. Hellllp.”

Ah yes. A classic. You are absolutely not alone in this one.

So there are two things you need to know.

Once your family session is all booked, I will send you a beautiful Welcome Guide that has a whole section dedicated to the 'what on earth do we wear' question.

It covers all the practical stuff, colours that photograph beautifully, textures that add depth, how to coordinate without looking matchy-matchy, and plenty of little gold nuggets to help you pull it all together. There is even a curated Pinterest board to give you real-life inspiration.

Plus, there is extra guidance on the FAQ page on my website if you need a little refresher.

AND all full-length sessions include access to my client's wardrobe that includes dresses in adult and children's sizes.

You are very welcome.

Above all else, you want to be comfortable and you want to look like yourselves.

I would suggest tones that work beautifully in our Perth light. I can gently steer you away from logos and clashing patterns. I can help you think about how everything works together.

But at the end of the day, you still want to recognise your family in the photos. You want to feel relaxed. You want to feel confident. You want to move freely when your kids grab your hands and run.

That is when the magic happens.

Does this help answer your question? Is there anything else you wonder about when it comes to what to wear? Let me know below or send me a message.

How To Confidently Book In Your Photo Session, And Love Yourself For Doing It: Part 2

It’s time we talked about it… money. Budget. The number that quietly sits in the back of your mind while you scroll. Yes. Let’s bring it out into the sunlight so it can roll around on the front lawn for a minute.

If this is something that has you thinking, “I’d love to book, but it’s just not the right time financially” or “Maybe next year when things settle down” I absolutely get it.

You are raising humans. You are paying for groceries that seem to cost more every week. You are juggling school fees, sports rego and the eleventy billion other things that pop up (hello unplanned car repair)

I’m partial to making things work in real life, too. Which is exactly why I offer flexible payment options and a collections model that lets you choose what suits your family best.

You do not have to decide everything upfront.
You do not have to commit to the full gallery before you have even seen it.
You get to choose after your session.

Your story deserves to be beautifully told. And if that means spacing out payments, starting with the session fee and upgrading once you see your images, or choosing a collection that feels comfortable right now, then we make that work.

Because missing this season while you wait for the “perfect” time is the only thing I don’t want for you.

So today, this is your gentle nudge to take the first step and send me a message. Tell me what you’re thinking. Tell me what’s holding you back.

We’ll work it out together.

How To Confidently Book In Your Photo Session, And Love Yourself For Doing It: Part 1.

Does this sound familiar?

“But I don’t really know how to pose. I don’t know what to do with my hands. I feel awkward in photos.”

Oh friend, I love it when I hear this. And I hear it a lot.

Because it tells me you care. It tells me you want to feel good. It tells me you want to get it right.

And then I get to put on my calm, steady voice, give you a reassuring smile and say,

“It’s ok, because guess what? You don’t need to know how to pose or what to do with your hands.”

PLUS, I am absolutely not going to drop you in a field somewhere in the Northern Suburbs of Perth and say, “Okay… act natural.”

That is not how this works.

Will there be guidance and direction? Yes.

The occasional bit of kind bossiness? Also yes.

Will I tell you where to stand so the light hits just right and gently move your hands so you feel comfortable? Of course.

Lots of candid, hair blowing in the breeze, kids laughing, real-life unfolding kind of moments?

Absolutely.

You do not need to know what to do.
You just need to show up.

I’ll take care of the rest.

P.S. Is this something you’ve worried about too? If you’re ready to stop hiding and finally be in the frame with your babies, head to my website and book your session. Or send me a message and we’ll find a date that feels just right.

Don’t tell me that your story is boring.

I don’t want to hear that your story is nothing special.

And I absolutely won’t agree if you say you’ve got no story to tell.

Your LIFE is your story. Your busy, loud, snack-making, school-run, where-did-this-year-go, sandy-feet, squashed-Weetbix, beautiful life.

It’s a stunning piece of poetry, and you get to choose how you tell it.

Just promise me that when you tell it, you will play a starring role. Enough with being behind the camera. Enough with cropping yourself out. Enough with saying you’ll book “one day.”

Your kids don’t see the tired bits. They see you. Their safe place. Their loudest cheerleader. The one who knows where everything is and somehow makes it all work.

I’m always so honoured that I get to gently guide mums in front of the camera, create relaxed space for real connection, and photograph families in a natural, timeless way that feels like you. I genuinely high five myself that I started this business all those years ago.

And if you’ve been thinking about finally updating your family photos and actually being in them, I’m right here to help.

Wondering if booking a family session is really worth it?

It’s not just about getting a few lovely photos for the wall.
And it’s not just about ticking the “annual family photo” off the to-do list.

The real magic?
It’s giving your kids something to look back on one day.
It’s capturing you in the frame too, not just behind it.
It’s freezing the messy, beautiful, ordinary magic of this season before it changes again.

If you’ve been craving photos that feel like your family

REAL
RELAXED
FULL OF HEART

Then DM me and let’s chat. I would love to help you out.
