Lynn Gail Photographer & Travel Writer

Lynn Gail Photographer & Travel Writer Travelling to different cultures to capture daily life foreign to mine, is both challenging and fascinating; each destination creates its own story.

www.lynngail.com.au Lynn Gail is a freelance photographer and writer based in Perth, Western Australia who specialises in the travel/tourism industry. She is available for both assignment and commission works within Australia and internationally. Her photographic work is represented by two of the world's leading photographic agencies, Getty Images (The Lonely Planet Collection) and Robert Harding

World Imagery. Her images are also available through Lonely Planet Images and Prints website. Lynn is also available for portraiture, offering images that share a special connection between the characters she photographs and their viewers. As a photographer, Lynn feels compelled to capture a true essence of the people and places she encounters. She feels that making a connection with her subject, however brief, is important in producing images that reflect an honesty in the patterns of people as they go about their everyday lives in our ever changing planet. "I soon realised that no journey carries one far unless, as it extends into the world around us, it goes an equal distance into the world within" - Lillian Smith.

The Indian Ocean's very own MnM's ~ Madagascar & Mauritius are looking sparkly in the travel section of this month's Australian Women's Weekly. The mag is flying off the racks, freshly baked bread speed, grab a copy and read about these two pearls, each incredible in their own right. ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

Thanks so much, as always, to travel editor, Bernie O'Shea for asking me to write about these wonderful all immersive destinations, which are indeed, the perfect pairing. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™Œ

India. It hits you square on - there's no honeymoon period, no getting to know its sounds, smells, culture in a slow way. And it's every bit addictive as the finer things in life: quietude, good friends, fine food, love.... It's people are some of the most welcoming, colourful characters I've met along the road less travelled.

Here's a small set of images of beautiful people who were open to connecting in a mini-second; they've helped bring the stories of travelling to new corners of the globe to life. ๐ŸŒŽ Forever grateful ๐Ÿ™.

Who else needs an edge? An ocean, river, natural spring, a body of water that simply breathes life into your very being? Wherever I travel, I'm drawn to water, in landlocked countries I search for it, in ocean-edged nations, I'm splashing, diving, playing - freedom at the helm.

Read about the fishermen I met in today's The Canberra Times. Their livelihood is a fascinating one!

Making connections in a market, down an alleyway, through someone's window, another's doorway, or being invited in - purely by chance, are reasons travel fills me...the unscripted, unplanned experiences that unfold between points A-B, moments that linger long after landing home.

I met this young girl as I wandered through markets in Jodhpur, she was helping her parents run their stall. Her intense gaze drew me in, she couldn't understand why I wanted to photograph her. After some nervous giggles she sat quietly, enjoying the moment, more so, when seeing herself on the camera's screen. She had a beautiful soul, too.๐ŸŒป

So good seeing a sea of yellow posts from winners recently awarded in the Media Awards 2026. ๐Ÿ’› I was thrilled to hear I'd won the award given for the best series of five commissioned photographs in the Wildlife & Environment category. Other finalists, whose work I've always admired are beautiful image makers, the award could have easily been scribed with their name, too. Wish I could have been in London, to celebrate not only the wins, but the amazing collective media community. ๐Ÿฅ‚

As with all things travel, it takes vision, collaboration, and a deep love of sharing the same goals - sharing the world as we experience it so others might venture further and see it too. Humble thanks to for creating the Inspire Global Awards, for making positive impact in the sometimes challenging media world.

Thanks so much to Imogen Eveson for bringing the feature, A Rare Breed covering Madagascar, together for International Traveller Magazine - Australian Traveller Media - loved putting this special spread together. ๐Ÿ™Œ

My guide and very dear friend, Diary Andrianampoina of Awesome Madagascar Tours is behind all the magic, my biggest thanks goes to him. ๐Ÿ™

The awards couldn't come together without dedicated sponsors - so a huge thanks to Lemongrass Marketing for getting behind this category. ๐ŸŒŸ Congratulations to all the other finalists and winners! ๐Ÿฅ‚

Big thanks to these classy people..

Loved writing about Ladakh for Explore Travel. India's northernmost state is more like Bhutan than wider India, more Buddhist than Hindu, and in early winter when snow begins to lay on the surrounding Himalayas, quiet falls and warm welcomes await at every corner. Our wonderful guide, Tsewang showed us his land from the ground up...take a read, it's a charming nation, it's the road less travelled. ๐ŸŒŽ

In the same edition, a wander through the Blue City, Jodhpur in Rajasthan showcases artwork in the amazing labyrinth of cool alleyways. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India is incredible in so many ways. ๐Ÿงก

I met Luther almost a year ago when he was getting ready to perform at the Fremantle Street Festival, and asked to take his portrait. We had ourselves quiet the chat and in that time I found out he was also a photographer. The show, his clan's depiction of how we should strive to become one in the world was heartfelt, extraordinary, and timely. Luther's work as a photographer is just as powerful, maybe more so . Luther is the first image, the second, his stunning daughter, a finalist print in the Ilford Orloff Awards 2025. Thank you again, Luther for stopping to chat and let me photograph you. ๐Ÿ™Œโค๏ธ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿงก

1,2,3,4,5, or 6 star stays all have unique aspects, some grand, others quietly humble, some, run of the mill rooms, then there are homestays where you're welcomed, treated like their own. No graces, just gracious people showing you their simple way of living. These are the ones I remember years after I've visiting a region. When you're away, there's nothing quite like feeling you're there, at home. ๐Ÿก

In the midst of getting to know the 'pearl of the orient', Sri Lanka, I've just found out I'm a finalist in the Awards 2026, in not one, but three categories, beyond triple thrilled! โค๏ธ

My feature, The Land Where Time Stands Still, written for .au is finalist for Consumer feature of the Year. Massive thanks to for supporting ๐Ÿ™ the journey through the incredible Kimberley, and to for pulling it all together. ๐Ÿ™โค๏ธ

The second massive thanks goes to at for commissioning, Rare Breed, a feature covering the magical land of Madagascar ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฌ.

The constant support of the travel industry is second to none...something I'm forever grateful for. It's opened doors I never thought possible, the view is unforgettable, the personal growth undeniable.

Big thanks to for his hard work and unbending vision in bringing these awards into so many people's lives. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Some features come straight of the rank, others smoulder, simmer on the back burner as editorial teams move your idea up and down the ladder, some ideas are simply rejected.

This photo essay, for covering the people of the Coral Triangle, took well over a year to come to fruition. Seeing it now, in print, tells me, always keep sight of the end goal, and to move those goalposts out, further than before.

Biggest thanks to for supporting ๐Ÿ™ all the cruises. Amazing company, and to at National Geographic Traveller for pulling it together. ๐Ÿ™
