Welcome to 2024.✂️ In order to harness some hyperfocus ahead of Sticky Institute Festival of the Photocopier 2024 we have collaborated with Xerox Days Zine Market and have some prompts!!

Guidelines:
- Do some prompts! Do them all! Do just one! Do what you can/want. Don't stress, have fun.
- You choose the format. Only have capacity for mini zines? Go for that! Have a hell of a lot to say about this thing? Make it a TOME.
- Resulting zines can be shipped to for stocking at FoTP2024 (if you want).
- It's mandatory that you show me what you make. Pls thx.

The exhibition brings together artists with diverse backgrounds and practices to explore the theme of ‘flesh’ in a variety of media. Human and animal, alive and dead, familiar and strange, the exhibition raises questions about the body and ageing, race and gender, touch and texture and surface and skin celebrating the biology of life and death with a touch of macabre.

Rebecca Hepworth | Noel Roy Johnson | Sophie G Nixon | Charlott Robinson

Last year I was fortunate enough to have .doco feature me along with , in their documentary. They are hosting a sneak peak short screening plus exhibition on 8th September from 6pm at . All proceeds from the night go towards the festival release of the film and print sales go directly to the artists. I am devastated I cannot be there, so please attend on my behalf!
Thanks to the team for being supportive of my unconventional art practice. I cannot wait to see the results.

Final weekend for you to see Tracing Absence at Kent Street Gallery. This is my first artist book/paper sculpture which is my favourite piece from this series. With shapes borrowing from traditional Dutch bonnets and created in paper, an important material in Polish folk arts, this object infers the kaleidoscope of emotions felt in being untethered from cultural heritage.

Robyn Bernadt , Chris De Sira , Louise Grimshaw , Shanti Gelmi and Sikes.

Tracing Absence
Kent Street Gallery-Victoria Park Centre for the Arts
Exhibition runs till Tuesday 2 May 2023.
Monday to Friday: 10am - 4pm
Saturday & Sunday: 12pm - 4pm

It isn't often that I feel like standing in front of the camera, but for the works I am showing at Tracing Absence at Kent Street Gallery-Victoria Park Centre for the Arts, I felt like to put myself within the work was essential (even if the thought still makes my skin crawl).

The death of the last family member to have emigrated from Europe threw me into a spiral of regret about not asking more questions about the cultures my families originated from. Clouded by the unspoken expectation of assimilation, the older ones didn't talk of their previous lives and I was too young and disinterested to ask at the time. Regret born from this made me consider the exploration of my culture histories through the means I have at hand: the internet. Borrowing folkart motifs and reflecting them onto myself and asking if I see them sitting there within myself.

This image comes from a series of photographs of projections called Internet Searches for Ghosts.

With work alongside the exemplary Robyn Bernadt , Chris De Sira , Shanti Gelmi , Louise Grimshaw and Laura Sikes.

Tracing Absence runs till Wednesday, 3 May.
Monday: 10am – 2:30pm
Tues–Fri: 10am – 4pm
Sat–Sun: 12pm – 4pm

I have a work in a group show alongside some very talented artist friends. I will not be in Perth for it sadly, so please go in my place and observe their genius. I have some new works which departs from my usual practice which I am both excited and terrified to share.

Alongside the wonderful works of Robyn Bernadt, Chris de Sira, Shanti Gelmi, Louise Grimshaw and Laura Sikes; I am showing a series of photographic and mixed media works and an artist book reflecting my introspection about the disconnect with my European heritage.

Today is my first full day as artist in residence at Beverley Station Arts in Beverley WA. We have settled in well with a wander around town yesterday, followed by a lovely meal at the "top pub". After we came back to get stuck into setting up my work in the space and have made good headway ahead of being open to the public on Thursday. We are adjusting well to the excitement of cohabitation with the occasional freight train.
I'm off for a ramble through the scrub! Will report back soon.
