āMatrescenceā.
Heard of the word? If you havenāt, thatās probably because it was only introduced to the dictionary in 2019.
We have all heard the word āadolescenceā when a child becomes a teenager and then a teenager becomes an adult. Likewise, āmatrescenceādefines the process of becoming a mother. They have it for Dads too: āpatrescenceā.
Motherhood changes a woman in such an intense way, and yet we are only just recently acknowledging and defining this!
In fact, we still have a LONG way to go. Too many mothers feel invisible, undervalued, exhausted, frustrated, misunderstood, unheardā¦this list could go on and onā¦
How are we not giving the utmost attention to those who are raising the next generation of humans and working 24/7 at it?
āBecoming a mother leaves no woman as it found her. It unravels her and rebuilds her. It cracks her open, takes her to her edges. Itās both beautiful and brutal, often at the same timeā

So I think itās fair to say, Mumās deserve a break!
Letās spoil our Mummies this Motherās Day! Respect all that they do. Let them rest! Take photos of them with their kids, without them having to ask and show our appreciation of the huge shift they are going through physically, emotionally, socially and economically. And I say going through because this isnāt just months, itās years long. Mums are amazing.
(Sending all the Mums a prayer that their kiddoās behave like angels today! š¤Ŗ)
HAPPY MOTHERāS DAY š
