I fear I've become a recurring character in this family's life and I'm absolutely not mad about it 😂

These guys have been coming back to me every year for their family photos and with our next session booked for next month, I figured I should probably get my s**t together and share last year's before we go adding another chapter to the collection 😅

Last time, we ditched the usual family shoot plans and went for ice cream instead. They did their thing, the kids got their treats, and I basically just invited myself along with a camera like some weird family friend who refuses to leave.

And THIS is the kind of stuff I bloody love photographing. Nobody had to entertain me, nobody had to pretend to be having the time of their lives, and the kids certainly weren't expected to spend an hour behaving like tiny, well mannered adults.

The fact that people keep trusting me to document their families year after year is something I'll never take for granted. Especially when they let me tag along for the fun stuff.

Anyway, we're due for another round next month and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what these legends have in store for me this time 🤍

What is it like to meet me and have me photograph your moments???

I'm that photographer who respects boundaries so hard, you won't even notice when walls come down and we're sharing life's biggest experiences while simultaneously solving the world's problems together 👌🏽

Sometimes extended family sessions happen last minute and everyone is turning up unprepared and wearing the only things they have, while also daunted by the fact that they haven't reached a space where they're mentally capable to stand in front of a camera...

So, what better way to pull people out of their heads than to reach for their competitive sides!

With this many people, it was easy to get everybody moving and participating in games. I'm talking old school wheel barrow races, duck duck goose, relays and some really lame dad jokes.

I'm all about the family sessions that show us as we are. There's definitely a place for the polished group photos, but give me the ones playing tag, ugly crying from laughter and even a bit of friendly banter amongst family ✌🏽

A wedding full of emotions (when aren't they?! 🥹😍) and all of the love. I came into their relationship to document their biggest day together, at a time that felt fragile and unnerving for them, but because your girl is a long time supporter and I like to keep up with my couples after all is said and done 😘 i get to watch them grow and overcome some huge milestones through life.

Have I ever said, I love my job? 🥹💃🧡

Okay sooo… tiny little announcement 😌

I’ve decided to start offering mini sessions all year round 😅... Not because full sessions aren’t valuable, but because, like you, I'm a consumer and even when I think about scheduling and booking my own family photos, I have the same concerns and often fall down the rabbit hole that it's not a "realistic" option right now 🫠

Sometimes it comes down to budget.
Sometimes the kids are running on borrowed time before a meltdown 😅
Sometimes an hour-long session feels like too much mentally, physically, or logistically.

But that doesn’t mean we/you should have to miss out on having photos for whatever reason you want them...

So this felt like a really nice middle ground 🤍

She told me she wanted maternity photos and her partner said “yeah nah… only if I can bring the Harley and we do it at a brewery,” and honestly I didn’t even hesitate, I was like yep done, lock us in and let’s build the whole thing around that because that’s exactly how I want people showing up to their shoots 🏍

We ended up at , bike parked up, having a laugh about how this was definitely not what he pictured when he heard the words “maternity session,” and somewhere in between just hanging out and not overthinking it, it all fell into place in that really easy, natural way where nothing feels forced and no one’s trying too hard.

That’s the bit people don’t expect, because everyone comes in thinking it’s going to be awkward or staged or something they have to survive, but when it actually reflects you, your life, your relationship, it just works without all of the pressure sitting on it... And yeah, I’ll guide you, I’m not just standing there hoping for the best, but I’m also not here to turn you into some Pinterest version of yourselves either, the whole point is that it still feels like you at the end of it.

So if you’ve been trying to convince your partner to get in front of the camera and getting absolutely nowhere, maybe the answer isn’t pushing harder, maybe it’s meeting them halfway and letting it look a bit different.

Harley not required… but I’m not mad about it ⚡️

A different kind of Chin wag, and one i debated sharing, but here we are 👋🏼

I found it really helpful to watch and listen to others who shared their journey, and if I can inspire someone to advocate for themselves, then why the fck not 🤠🤷🏽‍♀️

I can't speak on behalf of Emma, but how many of us mama's rock up to a shoot, half in it 🙃 half thinking about the 47 other things we needed to do that day? 🤷🏽‍♀️

We didn't really "start" anything. No big set up, no "okay, stand here and do this" prompting ❌️ He just climbed straight into her, she laughed, and that was kinda it 🥹 the whole session unfolded from there.
.. And that, my ducklings, is usually how it goes when people stop trying to make it a photo shoot.

He was all over her like white on rice, grabbing her face, getting in way too close and doing that thing kids do when they're equal parts chaos and affection 🥰 ... and Emma just rolled with it. No pulling him off, no trying to reign it in, just letting him be exactly who he is right in the now ⚡️

Those are always the frames that stick with me after. Not because they're "perfect" but because they feel like something you can't really recreate if you tried 🙌🏽 its just them, as they are 👌🏽

I think that's why I still love doing this as much as I do. It never really feels like I'm creating anything, more like I'm just there catching it before it moves on.

Anyway... this one felt like them 🤍
