This portrait is not about accepting the body, nor does it hide behind the idea of body positivity, too often an illusion that tries to convince us that what doesn’t feel right should be declared fine.

Here, appearance is not the focus, nothing is disguised and nothing is glorified.
What remains is the moment: the presence of oneself, the experience lived, the breath that turns into memory.

The body is not the center, but the vessel that allows us to inhabit this instant.

This shoot with .xo was one of the most felt, not only for the presence she brought,
but for where we were.

Tucked just outside Perth’s CBD,
those towering trees offered more than a backdrop.
They gave silence, shelter, space to feel.

I found out recently that they’re gone, lost to infection, and with them,
a place that shaped so many of my images and ideas.

We often credit the technique or the subject.
But most of the time,
it’s the place that does the heavy lifting, that gives the emotion room to grow,
and gives us something we didn’t know we needed.

This is why I choose open spaces.
Why I return to nature again and again.

Because feeling lives there.
And that’s where photography begins.
