Millaa millaa falls what a cracker!! We decided rather than head back towards Innisfail we would travel towards the Atherton tablelands with the intention to see this fall.
The area scattered with quaint little towns with lots of fabulous
spots to stop, including platypus viewing which sadly we were not there at the right times to see.
Oh well great reason to put it down for a return visit!

No doubts on why this is the most photographed waterfall in beautiful QLD!!

Alice Springs Desert Park. Located not far from the centre of town this fantastic facility houses not only some solid creatures built to handle the outback but also lovely knowledgeable staff.
They host a variety of talks over the course of the day so try get a timetable so you can plan around your kids needs. We did the nocturnal talk and the bird show and absolutely loved both.
A real highlight for Shannon is that the park has a more natural feel with large open spaces for the animals.
BYO lunch as the cafe is currently closed but there is a fabulous picnic area for eating at that is well shaded.

We arrived in NT early with the route initially passing Kata Tjuta aka the Olga’s. words are hard to find to describe this place, it is spiritual in away we haven’t felt before, it truly felt we were on very sacred land.
We returned the next morning to explore the track with the aim of the second look out about 2.5km in. After an extremely bumpy start with Mr C he rediscovered his love of nature and adventure on this track so much so we completed 7.5km loop which was a pretty proud moment! During our journey a light rain came in and what a magical site to@see, birds singing, and the bugs literally thousands came out for us to see, Mother Nature is so very clever!!

Now of course the main site to@see is Uluṟu based about 10km from yalara camp (a highly commercialised hub you pretty much have to stay at to see the region). We hit sunset for two nights as it’s an incredible site to see. The colours off the rock are enchanting as you let you kids run around the sunset carpark like little wildings! This truly is a bucket list item and now I have experienced it I hope it’s not the last! We only did a short walk at Uluṟu as to hire a bike I’d have to sell a kidney (and I like them where they are) but it is very different to the Olga’s in it’s flat track around with many opting for segways to cruise around.

The town of Leonora (such a friendly bunch of people)and next door Gwalia. This has been a long time coming for James, his beautiful Nonna was born here. This small town still has an active mine still in use (the deepest open cut mine in the world).
Many buildings have been restored by the amazing locals, and in truth life was hard and simple back then. We also found Nonna’s old house (or what was once).
If you get a chance check out the museum and Hoover house (stay here if you can it’s a stunning building and according to word from other travellers does great scones and hots chips with gravy.

Shannon had the gormeley sculptures on her must do list. A 100km detour west from the town of Menzies on lake Ballard provides mother natures canvas for these incredible artworks.
There are 51 in total all based off the locals at Menzies each piece unique and stylish in design.
We arrived at 11 so had heaps of flies but I would highly recommend a visit in the early morning, if the ground is hard some people ride bikes between pieces.
