Some families just keep finding their way back to you.

The first time I photographed Angie and her family, they travelled to Denver to meet me. The next time, they drove around Lake Michigan to meet me on the other side, in Milwaukee. And now, this time, it’s my turn to make the journey to them.

I’m heading to St Louis to photograph them at home, and I honestly can’t wait. There’s something pretty special about a family who has made so many trips to find you, and after all these years and all these places, I feel incredibly lucky that I get to keep photographing them.

They’ll never be this little again. And then they’ll never be this little again.

It sounds obvious, but it is something I feel more deeply the older my own children get. The baby becomes the toddler, the toddler becomes the child, and somehow, almost without noticing, the child becomes someone who needs you a little less, until they don’t need you at all. (Although I’d like to believe we all need our mums, no matter how old we are.)

It is happening in the middle of ordinary days. In the noise, the mess, the sticky hands, the bedtime negotiations and the ridiculous things they do that sometimes drive you completely mad. Last night Ezra asked for one book before bed and then came back with three.

Because whatever season you are in right now, it will not come back. One day you will miss the very things you were wishing would hurry up and pass.

So enjoy it. The messy, noisy, sticky, frustrating, beautiful ordinary days. This is it. This is the bit you will miss.

SUNSHINE COAST FAMILY MODEL CALL

I’m looking for one local family for a relaxed family session over the next few days while I test out a new lens before heading to Canada next week.

You’ll receive 5 beautifully edited images from your session, completely free.

If you’d love to be considered, email [email protected] with a little about your family and your availability and please share!

Never will I not feel the sense of awe and wonder in capturing a new little human.

There is something so extraordinary about meeting someone at the very beginning of their story.

So much life ahead.
So much love already here.

Baby Hazel, today. 15 days new.

I think I’ve been overthinking everything lately. What to share, what to say, whether I have enough new work, whether I should be doing more.

And then I look back through the photographs I’ve made over the past few months and remember how much I actually love this. Photographing families, photographing babies, travelling, teaching and being in a room with other photographers and watching them find something of their own.

These are just a handful of frames from Europe this year, including a little behind the scenes from my Within Workshop in London.

And perhaps through all the change, this is the one thing that still makes complete sense to me.

A camera in my hands.

I’m heading to Sydney in October with 2 session spots remaining, and there are 2 seats remaining for my next Within Workshop.

I’m also starting to plan 2027, with Switzerland in June followed by time on the East Coast of the USA. I’ll be opening a small number of family sessions around those travels too ~ more on that soon.

Big birthdays in our house have had me saying, take me back, more than I’d like to admit.

The funny thing is, when they’re little, we don’t always want time to slow down. We can’t wait for them to sleep through the night, feed themselves, dress themselves, become more independent.

Then one day, you’d give anything to carry them on your hip again. To feel their chubby little hands around your neck. To steal one more sloppy kiss before they grew up...and before standing too close earned you an eye roll.

This session, from almost a year ago, has me feeling exactly the same.

I guess that’s why photographs matter.

They don’t stop time. But they let us go back.

It’s hard not to look back as another one of my “babies” turns 18 and wish I’d done a few things differently; to know then what I know now.

If I could tell every new mother one thing, it would be this: Do less. Love more.

The laundry will wait. The house will never stay tidy and the to-do list will always be there.

But these little years? They disappear before you even realise they’re gone.

What’s the one thing you would tell every new mother?

There isn’t a perfect family.

There are only families who love each other in a thousand small ways.

Recently, Sue sent me these words:
“You have such a gift with taking photos. You see so differently, it’s too special.”

Thank you, Sue, for trusting me with your family, and for your beautiful words. They mean more than you will ever know.

Not perfect moments. Just ones filled with love.

Planning the final months of 2026...

I’m beginning to map out the remainder of this year’s travels and am exploring the possibility of a small number of family sessions in Paris & Europe during late September / early October, followed by Sydney and possibly Melbourne in mid to late October.

Nothing is confirmed just yet, but if you’ve been thinking about a session, I’d love to hear from you. Your interest will help me plan my final travels for 2026.

I’m also happy to start taking expressions of interest for 2027 if you’d like to plan a little further ahead.
