's use of colour & loving approach to documenting how absurd we at leisure, was a huge inspiration for this ( still unpublished ) series 'I know it's only rock & roll'.
Here are the elvises (elvi?) from 2024's Parks Elvis Festival.

( The last shot was so very Parr I couldn't not take it )

Growing Up is hard to do.
Lyric Video for

trusted me with the concept, direction, photography & most of the editing on this one. She even obliged by digging into her own photo albums and found some gems; some very sweet family photos of her mumma & brother, adorably adolescent touring photos of very early Killing Heidi, a few easter eggs from upcoming videos we're making, plus polaroids from the recording of the album in nashville. Real letters from loved ones, and the poetry & talismans that were with her during the period the album is written about.

lent his glorious sax ( to replace to coffee pot we used in the demo- last slide ) grace.c designed the sweet scrap book, and provided invaluable art direction & technical assistance during the demos & video production.
did all the heavy lifting with the first passes of editing.

The first of a few visuals for this album from me and this lovely team.

Working on something nice that should be announced soon, and it's had me digging in the archive, making me realise that since painting a spiral staircase with him, sometime in the non-time of lockdown pauses, and I have made quite a few photos together. We're never not talking and talking and talking. Lucky me. Here's to more photos and conversations.
Thanks for introducing us .

Beanpole is released today. knows what's up, it's album of the week.

Georgia and I spoke alot about how these images wouldn't be; not polished, not beautiful (for the sake of beauty),
less a portrait of writer & player, and way more a still from the liminal world of Beanpole.
We sent stills from Natural Born Killers (1994), one from Blues Brothers (1980), some black and white photographs of a young Marco Pierre White & Joaquin Phoenix smoking in kitchens, and blue saturated, high contrasted Robert Patterson bleaching his hair by Jack Bridgland, not quite right.
We spoke about how these images needed to feel- like the temporary intimacies in Nan Goldin's The Ballad of Sexual Dependency, like the sparseness of Bill Henson's Untitled floating series, like the placeless narratives of the Untitled film stills from Cindy Sherman, like cluttered bedside tables & hotel bathrooms & train terminals, but mostly the temperature and the interstitial repetition of Wong Kar-Wai's Fallen Angels (1995) & Chungking Express (1994) & In The Mood For Live (2000). (perfectly rendered in the Desire Videoclip made by Georgia, Marlon Williams, Tom Lynch & Martin Sagadin.)

Proud to have found a way there, with a musician whose work has moved me for years.

Congratulations on an album that really lives in between and right in.

needed a body for a lighting test last year. I've been thinking about Alfred Stieglitz's portraits of Georgia O'Keeffe's hands a lot lately.

A mate of mine was recently telling me about how she explains Santa to her kid; how a myth was borne of a real story, a myth that some people choose to continue, but it's not something they do in their family. She said, there's so much magic and wonder in the real world, in nature and in us, I hope my kid doesn't need to retreat to fantasy to be awed by our world.
Minutes later we saw a fu***ng enormous meteor streak across the sky, brighter and sharper and louder than anything celestial I'd ever experienced ( including the green UFO and I saw off queenslands coast ). An astronomical exclamation mark to her point.

This story sums up a lot of my feelings about AI generated artwork and images.

Keep ya bouncing bunnies and your Santas, I'll take the meteors and the random repetition of the emirates flight crew waiting to check in, whilst I was shooting a completely different job in the lobby of the Pullman.

Even amongst all the carnage and heartbreak and the deep urge to check into something unreal, I do think (hope) that out here in the real world, if we're on the watch, just like Bukowski told us, the gods are still offering us chances.

Ever seen two sister so elegantly give the world the middle finger? A pleasure to collaborate with again.

Nearly a year ago, in the great dividing range on Gunaikurnai & Wurundjeri country. Windy and freezing and beautiful.
