An original photo of mine from back in 2020 when I decided to go out on the water with my brother while the mega pods were around.
I remember saying “I really want a photo of a whale breaching with Montague Island in the background”
We spent some time chatting while he fished and I played with camera settings on my a7iii, then we hear it, a large splash somewhere south of us. We decided we would stay put and respect the space as they were heading past us. With my brother he had a fist full of my T-shirt holding me while I peered into the view finder just hoping I could line it up. And boom! There it was a perfectly level horizon. A whale calf breaching with its head perfectly tilted towards the island.
