Things that have been said to me about sharing my personal values online as a business owner.. and why I still do it.

"You will lose customers"
Photography is a creative and collaborative process and if I lose a customer because they disagree with my views I doubt i want to work with them anyway.

"Thank you. It helps to know you are a safe person"
No notes.

"You will be closing the door to future opportunities"
Ive actually found the opposite. By being clear about my beliefs I have had opportunities open up to me and have been able to work with multiple charities and organisations who share my values.

"Business shouldn't be political"
Maybe.. but art (and photography) has always been, and continues to be political and that is a part of what keeps it fresh, interesting and moving.

"Your work should speak for itself".and it should. But it doesnt. We live in an age and location where there are so many talented photographers in each budget category. What it comes down to is "who do you click with?". Sharing my values helps clients know where they stand and why they should or shouldn't hire me as their photographer.

"It's nice to support people who are allies, and believe in the same things we do"
And it is nice to be supported by you.

Christmas mini galleries have all been posted out to their families! I say every year "I'm never doing this again" and yet I still do. Unsure what 2026 will bring but I am forever grateful for the families that continue to hire me to capture their photos and for the business over this hectic "Silly season".

The year is almost over and it's time to reflect. This is usually when I would look back on my yearly "bucket list" but 2025 has been particularly tough for me and my family, and very little on it has been ticked off! Professionally, I have been lucky enough to work on some fantastic campaigns and projects with Anglicare and the Central Coast Council. I have managed to continue working somewhat despite medical challenges. I have been able to be creative, and really connect with some beautiful new people - my favourite part of the job. What are you proud of from 2025? What do you hope to see more of in 2026?

It was so special to capture this family and their doggie Minnie out on the farm this year. We only had a small window of time, but i feel like we were able to get a real sense of who they are! This is what it looks like when Christmas mini sessions turn into a quick family sesh to update those wall portraits! Casual, genuine, full of laughs and the sounds of bellbirds in the Central coast bush. Thanks Lesley and fam for trusting me!
