We are Ben & Jess Paul, University trained husband-and-wife photographers from the Gold Coast. We’ve tried our hand at various occupations in the past, always keeping photography as a hobby that we both absolutely loved. However after our own wedding we couldn’t escape it any more; we just couldn’t see ourselves doing anything else. It is just so special capturing the happiest moments of peoples’
lives and we feel so comfortable doing it. Our preference is to capture moments rather than pose or recreate them, so a lot of the time you may not even know we’re there! You can trust that we will be, of course, there is always something magical happening that we will be so excited to share with you so you can bottle *that* feeling and keep it for the rest of your life. About Ben:
I was born in Victoria and have moved back and forth from Queensland a couple of times since. One constant in that time however is that from the time I ordered a pocket sized, bright green ‘spy camera’ from a magazine at the age of 8, I’ve loved taking pictures. To that end, if I’m walking alongside someone and they notice me gone – I’ve probably spotted something along the way and am lying on my stomach trying to get a unique picture of it. During High School was the first time I studied photography, learning the lost art of developing film and printing pictures in a darkroom. On a specifically non-digital SLR I spent two years learning the ins and outs of how a camera works. The outcome of that these days of course is that I have a slightly more than vague understanding of what all those numbers on the screen are talking about. After High School it was on to Bond University where again I studied – you guessed it – Film. Much of that degree was spent with a video camera, with one unit of stills. It was here I developed an interest in video editing, the most frustrating yet eventually overwhelmingly rewarding thing I continue to put myself through. With the experience I have, it really should be easy by now but I’m something of a perfectionist despite myself. Years later, Jess & I were married at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. By that point we had been in touch with our own amazing wedding photographers for around 9 months and were so inspired by them that we couldn’t stand coming home and going back to our normal lives. We needed to make photography our life and become those people who do what they love. About Jess:
I was born in New South Wales and didn’t stay there too long, I have lived in the ACT, Victoria and Queensland. From the day my late Grandfather bought me my first film camera with zoom, I have always had a passion for capturing special moments. While others recorded short media assignments on a handheld tape recorder, my drive led me to doing the same assessment in a professional music studio. Also while at High School I met Ben! To give you an idea of the time period, we first started talking to each other on MSN Messenger. And the risk of getting disconnected by a phone call was very real. I continued my studies taking a Small Business Management course and eventually finding my way to studying Film at Bond University. When I didn’t have a camera in my hands at Uni I was taking electives in Design learning all about editing and graphic design. The most exciting part of this journey is I get to embark on it with my husband (still weird to use that word! Feels so adult). After our own wedding and the feeling I got seeing all these moments that I missed on the day, I knew we had to give this feeling to everyone we could.
