Someone asked me recently, “How do you know so much about traditional costumes?” And it instantly took me back.
In my early 20s, I was competing internationally in Beauty Pageants- Miss World Cup Australia in Germany, Miss World University in Korea, and later even gave Mrs Australia a go (not quite the same magic as your 20s 😝).
That’s where it all began.
I was suddenly surrounded by women from every corner of the world — and with them, the most breathtaking national dress. I saw the elegance of the Cheongsam (Qipao), the grace of the Ao Dai, intricate Thai silk ensembles, Korean Hanbok, Indonesian Kebaya, and so many more.
I had never experienced anything like it - the colour, the craftsmanship, the meaning behind every detail.
And the friendships… Miss Japan in Germany, Miss Singapore in Korea — just laughed so much.
Looking back, it shaped so much of how I see beauty now — not just in aesthetics, but in culture, identity, and storytelling.
Just thought I’d share a little memory 🤍
