You never know what you’re going to find when you get yourself lost. I was driving the dusty back roads in country Victoria, to be honest I couldn’t tell you where, searching for scenes that stirred my emotions. I saw this apple orchard from the corner of my eye. I pulled over and grabbed my camera, jumping a couple of fences to get closer to this glorious scene. I hadn’t spent much time in orchards before, and I was surprised by how magical it felt to be close to nature in this way. If you love the slow life and simple pleasures, this one is for you 🍎

Weekend in Pictures. This time of year on the island is hard to beat — and the moment the rain finally stopped here in Brisbane, we packed our bags and headed for the island The autumn light was magical. This is what we got up to.

1. This is our living room before we left our mainland house for the ferry ride. I love how the sunlight just pours into this room in the mornings.

2. I packed this book for the trip. It’s about one of the last great legends of American interior design, decorator Sister Parish

3. We made the ferry just before sunset. The bay felt dramatic, yet so beautiful.

4. Waking up at the island house always feels surreal when you walk out to the deck and see all that nature ♥️

5. Edie and Alby debuted their new wetsuits 👯

6. We also went hard on our island honey, as we were all under the weather with colds, but didn’t stop our fun!

7. Our living room.

8. This is where Edie draws. I have this little table set up with sheepskins on the floor and a basket of toys nearby for when families come and rent our home, so the children have a low table to play at.

9. The sheepskins also find their way outside for when the temperature drops a little. I love this shot of them together.

10. I brought over these pretty orchids on the ferry. I’ve always got so much on my lap when we come over - my basket of eggs, always flowers, sometimes a lampshade or two.

11. Love this shot of Alby, he reminds me of my dad a little here.

12. We admired the colours of this beautiful butterfly we found in the garden.

13. A glimpse of our coffee table, piled high with collections of seashells and hats.

14. We play a lot of snap over there on the island.

15. The bananas in the backyard were ready to pick.

16. Alby was very happy to take them back to Brisbane to ripen 🍌

This is my ode to the Australian summer - sparkling water, salty air, and those iconic beach holiday moments we never forget. I’ll always remember my Dad teaching me to surf at Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast as a teenager. Do you have similar memories from the beach?
