Say hello to ELLE Australia’s September cover star, our 2026 ELLE Next Gen Model Of The Year winner Latahlia Hickling!

During Covid, Latahlia was like any other teenager posting to TikTok from her home in a small town in northern NSW. She was a little bit bored, going a little bit stir-crazy. Fast-forward to October 2025, and the then 18-year-old Githabul and Bundjalung model was on a flight to Paris to make her runway debut. And not for just any old designer: for Matthieu Blazy in his history-making turn as Chanel’s new creative director.

Latahlia was one of just two Indigenous Australian models cast for the spring/summer 2026 runway, alongside Tatyana Perry. “I was just praying and praying and keeping my mind busy,” she says of how she kept the tremendous nerves away while waiting backstage.

Introducing Danisha and Jasmin, both from the Dalabon and Dukul nations, of the Northern Territory.
Danisha works as a Ranger with animal Land Corporation.
Jasmin is the Tiwi Rangers Coordinator.
Sharing their time with me and patience hanging on Rembarnga country during the Strong Women for Healthy Country forum. So amazed at the type of work these Rangers do as part of their roles, in remote locations with limited on ground resources. It is so removed from our lives down South. But you can clearly see they absolutely love what they do out on Country. Thanks so much for your time, laughter and beautiful smiles Danisha and Jasmin 🙏🏽

A week after my trip up to Remabarnga country in East Arnhem. Was a long trip but meeting all the Beautiful Strong Women, filling my cup to the brim and being a Visitor on such Stunning country - was Worth Every Bit!! Thanks to Mimal Land Management and the StrongWomen For HealthyCountry network for having me on board for another year. Still Pinch myself that I get to travel and live my passion behind my camera like this!! So Blessed ❤️🙏🏽

Melissa Andrews- Wurramarrba of the Alawa and Anindilyakwa nations.

I met Melissa at the Strong Women for Healthy Country Forum last week, held at Barrapunda in East Arnhem Land.

After listening to her speak over the few days I know we are in good hands with the next generation like Melissa, a Strong, Staunch and Inspiring young woman passionate about caring for country and culture, especially in her work around water.

Sitting down this morning in East Arnhem Land at the Strong Women for Healthy Country forum. This Beautiful woman Dr Sarah sat down to have a yarn. Asking her where she was based and she reckon “I work in a little town called Cunnamulla. Do you know where that is?” 🤣🤣Umm yep I know that place, that’s where my Hooper mob live!
